INTRODUCTION TO THE TOPIC:

Addiction is a concept that may be difficult for the average person to understand,
It is when simply people lack the willpower to stop a certain behavior such as
drinking, smoking, taking drugs or overeating.
Addiction is the process of intake of a mood altering substance or behavior despite
adverse dependency consequences or a neurological impairment leading to such
behaviours.
Addictions can include, but are not limited to, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, exercise
abuse, and gambling.
Addiction is a brain disorder that results in a compulsive need to repeat a destructive
behaviour, regardless of the negative consequences to themselves or others.
Addiction typically starts when an individual begins to experience a powerful craving
for something.
Over a period of time, tolerance will develop, making the craving harder and harder to
satisfy.
During addiction to psychotropic substances, like drugs or alcohol, failure to quench
the craving will likely result in withdrawal.
Although withdrawal symptoms vary depending on the substance, they are typically
painful and, because taking more of the substance will eliminate them, will often
thwart attempts at sobriety.
One of the most common (and most dangerous) forms of addiction is drug addiction.
Drug addiction is a costly public health crisis, with estimates of costs to productivity,
health care and the criminal justice system exceeding half a trillion dollars each year.
All drugs are made of chemicals.
People can become addicted to all sorts of drugs, including illicit drugs like cocaine
and heroin and prescription drugs like Vicodin and Xanax.
Prescription drug addicts often begin the cycle of addiction while taking prescribed
medicine for a bona fide medical reason but, like illicit drug users, find themselves
unable to stop using the drug once the medical crisis has passed
URGE FOR A DE-ADDICTION CENTRE:
Addiction is a chronic, life-long illness with no magical cure, relapse is simply a
signal that additional drug addiction treatment is necessary in order to return the
patient to a stable state of sobriety.

No matter how powerful a patients addiction to drugs, there is always hope for
recovery.
Sliding back into addiction (otherwise known as relapse) occurs frequently.
Most mainstream rehab facilities tackle drug addiction from multiple angles including
counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy.
During individual or group counselling, addiction professionals aim to identify issues
that may be causing the patient to abuse drugs and help them resolve or, at least,
understand them.
Cognitive behaviour therapy, on the other hand, helps identify the negative or
erroneous thoughts and beliefs that have led to the substance abuse so that the patient
can learn to effectively manage such thoughts in the future without resorting to drugs.
Once a patient is in recovery, attendance at twelve-step programs helps solidify the
techniques learned and modifications made during addiction treatment.
For some patients with drug addiction, medication may be necessary to help relieve
the symptoms of withdrawal or control an underlying disorder that is causing the
patient to seek relief in addictive drugs.
Without such relief, no real work toward lasting sobriety can even be contemplated.
For example, heroin addicts are frequently prescribed Methadone, a less powerful
type of opioid that controls withdrawal while reducing cravings.
However, since the ultimate goal is complete abstinence from psychotropic
substances, this method of drug addiction treatment is intended to accompany a more
traditional approach, such as counselling or behavioural therapy.
A drug rehabilitation program refers to medical or psychotherapeutic treatment in
regard to dependence on various psychoactive substances like cocaine, heroin etc.
The main purpose is to allow the patient to stop substance abuse, for avoiding
psychological, legal, social, financial, as well as physical consequences, which may
be caused, particularly due to excessive abuse.
Several types of treatment procedures are applied for achieving the desired results,
such as residential treatment, out-patient, extended care centers, local support groups
and recovery houses.
Medication includes buprenorphine as well as behavioural therapies in case of
stimulant addiction are often used.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

Design should help in the healing process.
To enhance or help the person to overcome the situation for a fast recovery.
To cope up with his state of addiction both physically and mentally.
To decrease isolation and enhance better human relation.
Create t an environment away from home yet close to heart.
SCOPE:
To decrease the addicts number by creating a proper and healthy recovery
environment.
LIMITATIONS:
To limit to the standards according to the site location.
To nest the rehabilitation centre with surrounding environment irrespective of the
neighbourhood colony.
