2015 WESTAR ENERGY CRAFT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
GENERAL LINE WORKER SCHOLARSHIP
Number awarded:

Award amount:
$2,000
(Depending on applicants, one scholarship may
be reserved for a female applicant.)
Renewable for up to 2 years.
POWER PLANT OPERATOR SCHOLARSHIP
Number awarded:
One
Award amount:
$2,000
Renewable for up to 2 years.

Selection process:

Eligibility requirements:

Candidates must be able to attend a one-day camp.


Camp selection will be based on the students:
GPA
Application and short essay
Short answer questions
Once accepted into the camp, candidates will
be rated on the following criteria:
Completion of Job Fit Survey
Performance in camp
Personal interview
Motor vehicle check
Winners will be announced by the end of May.

Must be a graduating high school senior or


equivalent, or a recent high school graduate
or equivalent.
Student must maintain a 2.5 GPA during
degree program.
To receive a Lineman Scholarship the
student must be able to obtain Commercial
Drivers License.
Must be a Kansas resident to apply.

Registration opens December 15, 2014.


Deadline to apply is March 16, 2015.

POWER PLANT OPERATOR SCHOLARSHIP


Scholarship Award: $2,000 (renewable for up to two years)
Number of Scholarships Available: 1 General Power Plant Operator Scholarship
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
Must be a resident of Kansas
Must be a graduating High School Senior or equivalent or recent High School Graduate or equivalent
Must pursue a degree in Power Plant Technology in Kansas
Must enroll as a full-time student in degree program (does not have to be enrolled prior to scholarship award,
but must be a full-time student in degree program to receive award)
Must maintain 2.5 G.P.A during degree program
Program Selection Process:
Consideration for a Power Plant Operator Scholarship will be given to applicants who:
Submit a completed application and essay by March 16, 2015
If selected, attend the mandatory one-day Skills Test Camp
Complete a Job Fit Survey and CADI Testing (given during camp)
Participate in a personal interview (given during camp)
Camp Date: April 11, 2015
Camp Location: Jeffrey Energy Center, 25905 Jeffrey Road, St Marys, Kansas

LINE WORKER SCHOLARSHIP


Scholarship Award: $2,000 (renewable for up to two years)
Number of Scholarships Available: 1 General Line Worker Scholarship,
1 Female Line Worker Scholarship (if applicable)
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
Must be a resident of Kansas
Must be a graduating High School Senior or equivalent or recent High School Graduate or equivalent
Must pursue a degree in Electric Power and Distribution in Kansas
Must be eligible to obtain a Commercial Drivers License
Must enroll as a full-time student in degree program (does not have to be enrolled prior to scholarship award, but
must be a full-time student in degree program to receive award)
Must maintain 2.5 G.P.A during degree program
If 18, must be willing to submit to a Motor Vehicle Records Check (drug free with no DUI convictions)
Program Selection Process:
Consideration for a Line Worker Scholarship will be given to applicants who:
Submit a completed application and essay by March 16, 2015
If selected, attend the mandatory one-day Climbing Camp
Complete a Job Fit Survey (given during camp)
Participate in a personal interview (given during camp)
Camp Date: April 11, 2015
Camp Location: Professional Development Center, 801 NE US Highway 24, Topeka, KS
