Beginning Kickboxing Aerobics Course Syllabus

Course Description: Introduction and exploration of the fundamental skills of


Kickboxing Aerobics within a context of individual fitness development. Skill
progression, conditioning, analysis of technique and safety are emphasized.

Course objective: At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Discuss the benefits of physical fitness.
2. Calculate and determine individual fitness levels by pre and post fitness
testing. (pre fitness test = 3rd week of class, pre fitness test = week 6 and post
fitness test = finals day).
3. Conduct an exercise portion of the class (starting on week 8).
4. Demonstrate knowledge of handouts.
5. Demonstrate activities and techniques that are effective for improving
cardiovascular function.
6. Progress through various style of kickboxing aerobic exercise sufficient to
raise the heart rate to a level that will increase cardiovascular efficiency.
7. Monitor intensity with perceived exertion and calculated target heart rate
range.
8. Establish realistic weight goals based on percent body fat.
9. Establish recommended nutrient intake. (www.choosemyplate.gov)
10. Set goals at the beginning of the quarter and reflect on the goals at the end of
the quarter.
Policies and Procedures:
Attendance, punctuality and active participation in class are expected. Lack of
participation will result in an absence. Activity clothes are necessary for
participation NO JEANS, SANDALS, etc. Failure to dress appropriately will
result in an absence. Students are responsible for course materials whether
present or not during class.

*Attendance and Participation is crucial. For Attendance you will receive 1.25 points/day and for
participation 2 points/day.

All information included in the course syllabus and details regarding course assignments are
subject to change at the discretion of the instructor. Changes, if any, will be announced during
class. All students are responsible for staying abreast of any and all changes.

No Make up classes.

Statement of Reasonable Accommodation


The School of Kinesiology and Nutritional Science faculty members fully support

Cheating or plagiarizing in this course will result in zero score and will
seriously affect your grade.
The University considers cheating to a voluntary act for which there may be reasons, but for which there is
no acceptable excuse. The term cheating includes, but is not limited to (CSLA General Catalog, 2009
2011):

Plagiarism;

Receiving or knowingly supplying unauthorized information during an examination;

Using unauthorized materials or sources during an examination;

Changing an answer after work has been graded and presenting it as improperly graded;

Taking an examination for another student or having another student take an examination for you;

Forging or altering registration or grade document.

Students who are caught cheating may be subject to loss of credit for the assignment. If
issuing a punitive grade, the instructor shall report it to the Judicial Affairs Officer and
may recommend that appropriate action be taken through the Student Discipline
Procedures of The California State University.
The FINAL EXAM is scheduled for: KIN 154-06, Mon, March 16, 10:45-12pm
KIN 154-07, Mon, March 16, 4:30-5:45pm
