Carnegie: A Legend

Carnegie,

In 1869, the National Woman
Suffrage
Association
was
founded by Susan B. Anthony
and Elizabeth Cady Stanton to
push the U.S. Constitution for a
woman suffrage amendment.
Another
organization,
the
American Woman Suffrage
Association, led by Lucy Stone,
was formed inthe same year to
work
through the state
legislatures. In 1890, these two
groups were united as the
National American Woman
Suffrage Association.Thatyear,

In 1916 the National
Woman's Party, formed in 1913
at the Congressional Union for
Woman Suffrage, decided to
adopt a more abstract approach
to woman suffrage. Instead of
lobbying, the members picketed
the White House,marched,and
staged
acts
of
civil
disobedience.

Karl Benz, a German inventor,
was grantedapatentin1885for
his invention, the Benz Patent
Motorwagen. It was a carriage
capable of carrying two people,
powered by a small gas motor.
This proved to be the future of
transportation for the wealthy.
The new motorized carriage
showed how to eliminate all of
the issues with horsedrawn
carriages, but the model at the
time wasstillquiteinconvenient.
The motor was near deafening,
along with the strong odor of
gasoline, something that a high
class lady or man should not
havetoendure.
The many issues that
arose with the Motorwagen
made it so that the invention
was notyet ready forthestreets
of New York. The carriage had
to be fed fuel constantly by
hand, becauseitdidnot contain
a large tank, which made it a
problemwhen tryingtoenterthe
city from the mansions out on
the edge of New York. Maybe

A LOOK BACK AT
THE TREATY OF

nearing the finish line.
Nationwide womens suffrage
is right around the corner
for us. As long as the women
keep persevering and never
give up, we will reach the
goal; a milestone of much
needed appreciation.
League of Nations, an
organization designed to
protect and enforce world
peace in an attempt to
prevent another Great War.
This seems like the most
promising component of the
treaty. It is a good step
towards disassembling any
possibility of a nation or
group causing as much harm
to the world as has been
done in the past 5 years. As
we look towards the future,
keep in mind that we must
all work together to keep
ourselves safe, and may we
pray that no other conflict
of this nature will ever
arise.

Carnegie: A
Legend
(Cont.)
Alongside its neighbors,
including the homes of
Henry Clay Frick and
Cornelius
Vanderbilt,
Carnegies mansion looks
like any other mansion in
the
neighborhood.
But
there is one difference.
Just like Carnegie ran his
factory
with
technologically advanced
ideas, he ran his household
in the same way. In this
sense, Carnegie left a
legacy of technology and
high levels of intelligence
for the rest of the country
to discover and admire.
Carnegie implemented a
system of cooling and
heating for his mansion by
having outside air brought
in to be heated or cooled to
the desired temperature for
the house. Carnegie was
also very fuel efficient. In
his mansion, he had miner's
carts that carried coal
along a railroad track from
a massive bin to three large
boilers. On a typical
winter day, it took two tons
of coal to heat the house.
