Third part: Providing & laying of protective Geotextile fabric 150GSM over the entire membrane with
proper overlaps.
Forth part: Providing and laying a 50 mm thick concrete screed (1:2:4) for facilitating the assembly of the
reinforcement for the RCC Raft over it.
METHODOLOGY
Materials
1. Dr Fixit Flexshield E45: High performance non reinforced EPDM membrane.
2. Geo textile.
Tools and Machineries
1. Buckets, cleaning tools, brushes, gloves etc.
A.1.1 Surface preparation
1. Sub base should be well compacted and blinding plain concrete (PCC) laid to the level as designated
by the site engineer
2. Any loose mortar and debris should be removed from the blinding concrete surface
3. The undulations in the surface should be repaired with sand cement mortar to achieve smooth surface.
A.1.2 Approach for Waterproofing Treatment on Base Raft Concrete
1. Lay 150 gsm per meter grade Geotextile layer as protection to membrane from undulations and
protrusion of sharp edges from the blinding concrete layer
2. Dr. Fixit Flexshield 1.12 mm thick EPDM rubber membrane should be lose laid with use of Dr. Fixit
Splicing adhesive at overlap joints of the membrane
3. Lay further one more layer of geo-textile membrane as protection to the membrane from further
construction activity in the area
4. Apply 50 mm thick M20 screed over the geo-textile and further activity of reinforcement laying for
casting of the base slab and concreting of the base slab can be continued
A.1.3.2 Application Technique for Dr. Fixit Flexshield EPDM Membrane
Application of Vertical Membrane
Before application of the membrane on the base slab, the drains, up stands / protrusions, corner fillets etc.
must be covered using Dr. Fixit Flexshield SV membrane for easy & durable installation and bond using Dr.
Fixit Flexshield Adhesive SA
1. Before the sheets are laid, mark out datum lines with chalk, etc., so that the membranes can be
arranged properly and paralleled with reference to the edges of raft area.
2. First arrange to lay the membrane according to datum line from one side of the raft, and fold back to
half its Length.
3. Before applying Flexshield adhesive, stir it in the container to achieve a uniform mix without any
sediment at the bottom.
4. Apply bonding adhesive, Dr. Fixit Flexshield Adhesive on to the clean and prepared substrate and
also on to the back of the membrane that has been folded. Ensure that the membrane to be fully
bonded.
5. Adhesive must be then trowel applied in a thin even coat on membrane and the substrate. An excess
of adhesive will prolong the drying time.
6. Care must be taken not to apply Flexshield Bonding Adhesive over an area that is to be cleaned later
and overlapped to the adjacent membrane (from its underside). This is to be done also at the

peripheries of the membranes or their termination (from the underside. Use a chalk line mark or a
masking tape on the area to be overlapped (Splicing Area) and the ends of the membrane (for 5070mm) that has to remain clean.
Let the solvent evaporate naturally until the adhesive attains a tacky condition. Drying time will vary
depending on the climatic conditions and coverage rate. Never use a hot air dryer to accelerate the
process. In temperatures of 300 to 350 C, the drying time is approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Refer
datasheet of Dr. Fixit Flexshield Bonding Adhesive for more details.
Unfold back the first half of the Flexshield membrane carefully to ensure that there are no wrinkles
during the sticking process. The sticking process can be done with a roller. Since Flexshield comes in
a size of 20/25 m long & 1.2/3 m wide, maintaining the parallel position with respect to the datum
lines, spread and sticking, is very important.
Repeat the bonding procedure for other half of Flexshield membrane. Keep repeating this procedure
for every roll to complete the laying of Flexshield for the entire area.
Wait for 2 Days for the bonding adhesive to dry completely, to avoid joint failures before taking up
slicing of the joints.
An overlap of 50 70mm along the length or as specified is a must. A masking tape must be first
stuck to the laid membrane. Overlapping portions must be abraded with an emery paper thoroughly
and wiped / cleaned properly with a dry cloth.
Use Dr. Fixit Flexshield Adhesive SA to adhere the overlapped membrane portions.
Now, from the underside, remove the masking tape. Apply 2 coats of Dr. Fixit Flexshield Adhesive
SA. Please note that the overlapping in case of Flexshield application is done by tucking it below the
earlier membrane.
Thoroughly roll on the overlapped area with a 50-70 mm wide metallic roller.
If any damages occur due to unavoidable circumstances, apply a patch cut to the required shape with
Flexshield membrane itself, and stick with Dr. Fixit Flexshield Adhesive SA. The patch must be 2
more on all sides of the damaged area.
Termination of the base EPDM membrane at the retaining wall raft level with twin stick tape.
