Old Roses vs. Modern Roses


In some ways old roses are the same as modern roses.Both old and modern roses have
beautiful flowers. Old roses have thorny stems and so do modern roses. Both types of roses need
frequent pruning and regular watering. Neither old roses nor modern roses can live well in shade.
But in other ways od roses are different from modern roses.Old roses have a lot of petals but
modern roses dont. Old roses usually have strong scent but the modern ones dont. Modern roses
come in various colors but old roses dont .Old roses do not havestrong petals but the modern ones
do.

Louis Pasteur
Louis Pasteur was born in Dole on December 27,1822.He was a French chemist and biologist.
In 1847 he earned a doctorate at the Ecole Normale in Paris,with a focus on both physics and
chemistry.In 1854 he worked on bacteria. He found that the desired production of alcohol in
fermentation is indeed due to yeast. The undesired one is due to the presence of additional organisms
such as bacteria.
Because he was aware of the presence of microorganisms in nature,in1864 Pasteur undrtook
several experiments to find out where these germscame from.
In 1865 he found a method to destroy harmful bacteria without materially changing the
composition,flavor,or nutritive value of the liquid.The process aws named after him,pasteurization.
Pasteur also determine the natural history of anthrax,a fatal disease of cattle. He proved that
anthrax is caused by a particular bacillus.He suggested that animals could be given anthrax in a mild
form by vaccinating them with weakened bacilli. This vaccine provided immunity from potentially
fatal attacks.
Louis Pasteur contributed so much to the public sanitation.He founded the science of
microbiology,proved the germ theory of disease,invited the process of pasteirization,and developed
vaccines for several diseases,including rabies.

The English Lesson
George was sitting in his English class. It was a hot afternoon and he was feeling sleepy.It
was a grammar lesson and George was also bored.He hated grammar. He wanted to leave school and
work. George loved flowers and trees.George looked out of the window.He looked at the trees and
flowers.Then he started day dreaming.
After ten minutes the teacher stopped talking. She asked the students to do a grammar
exercise in their books.The students took out their exercise books and their pencils and they started
writing.The teacher looked at George. She saw that he wasnt writing ,so she said,why arent you
writing,George?George stopped dreaming and said,what,Miss? Wake up,George!the teacher
said.Why arent you writing?
George thought for a moment and replied,I aint got no pencil.
The teacher looked at him and said, you aint got no pencil?You mean.You dont have a pencil.
George didnt understand the English teacher so he said,Sorry.Miss.
The teacher said in an angry voice,
I dont have a pencil.You dont have a pencil.He doesnt have a pencil.She doesnt have a pencil.We
dont have pencils.They dont have encils.Now,George.Do you understand?
George looked at the teacher for a moment and said, My goodness! What happened to all the
pencils,Miss?
