The Indonesia-Taiwan Bilateral Relationship

In 1971, Indonesia and Taiwan established their representative


offices in each others country. Since then a flourishing bilateral
relationship of cooperation and collaboration exists.
In 2010, Indonesian Students Association in Taiwan established.

Taiwan has close relationships with Indonesia in areas of trade,


investment, agriculture, fisheries, labor, education and technology
to name a few.

The Taiwan Education Center was established by the Ministry of


Education, Taiwan for the purpose of promoting educational exchange and
cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan, including bilateral student
recruitment cooperation and providing Mandarin Chinese Language Learning Programs.

SURABAYA TAIPEI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Surabaya Taipei International School was establish in 1995 and subsequently recognized by
the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. Its mission is to provide the children of Taiwan business
people in Indonesia with a quality education which will allow them to easily transfer back
into Taiwans educational system upon returning home. Additionally, the school offers
Mandarin Chinese Language Learning Programs.

the total international students in Taiwan.

A VIP Delegation
In April 2011, Taiwans Ministry of Education invited a distinguished
delegation from its Indonesian counterpart; delegates included:

Dr. Supriadi Rustad, Director for Academic & Supporting Human Resources
Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, Rector of Bogor Agricultural University

Topics discussed:
1. MOU between Indonesia and Taiwan on Higher Education cooperation.
2. Research cooperation.
3. Teaching staff with scholarships offered by the Indonesian Ministry of National
Education to pursue masters or Ph.D. degrees in Taiwan.

The Indonesian Professional Training Project


between
MONE, Indonesia and MOE, Taiwan

Background
Indonesia will actively implement a program to send 1000 university
instructors as scholarship students to pursue doctoral degrees at selected
universities in Taiwan from 2011 to 2016.

Scholarship Method

TaiwanSubmitted conditions at the time of the signing; that students must


provide proof of 500 points or greater on TOEFL PBT 550 or equivalent
capabilities; Taiwan shall provide full tuition and fee.
IndonesiaFull subsidization; yearly review and qualifications renewal.

Taiwan Scholarships
To encourage promising international students to pursue degree studies in Taiwan,
the MOE selected 574 international scholarship recipients study in Taiwan in 2012
and 10 recipients are from Indonesia.

MOE Mandarin Enrichment Scholarships
To encourage international students to enhance their Mandarin
language skills in Taiwan, the MOE provided 308 Mandarin
Enrichment Scholarships for 46 countries in 2012 and 5
recipients are from Indonesia.

In 2011, the Taiwan Ministry selected 1 Mandarin teacher to
teach Mandarin in Indonesia with the following grant support:
-USD $800 per month (with the Certificate of Qualification )
