APPLYING FOR A

MARIE CURIE INTRA-EUROPEAN FELLOWSHIP


AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK
REGISTERING TO USE THE ELECTRONIC PROPOSAL SUBMISSION
SYSTEM (EPSS)
The potential fellow (not the Limerick Scientist in Charge) registers for an
EPSS username and password.
2 Go to the Cordis website and click on

3 Scroll down to the section called Electronic Proposal Submission Service,
the funding scheme should read Intra-European Fellowships, if it does click
on GO
4 You are taken to the EPSS home page https://www.epssfp7.org/epss/welcome.jsp where you should click on the first option I am
the coordinator of a proposal and I need a user name and password REGISTER
5 Information needed on the registration form:
Page 1 : you will be asked to provide your contact details and the following
information about Limerick:
6 Organisation name = the University of Limerick
7 Organisation short name = UL
Page 2 : will request the following information:
8 Topic code: PEOPLE-2007-2-1.IEF
9 Scientific panel: chose from the drop down menu
10 Title, acronym and abstract of your proposal
This page must be filled in less than 30 minutes; otherwise the data is lost
and the registration fails
Page 3 will ask for you to confirm the details you have entered. Click on
register.
11 Your registration will generate an automatic email from EPSS which will
provide your unique username and password.

HOW TO USE EPSS

12 Go to https://www.epss-fp7.org/epss/welcome.jsp and click on the 2nd option


I already have an online user name and a password LOGIN.
13 Log in using your unique username and password.
14 You will be asked to agree to EPSS terms and conditions.

15 The first time you log into EPSS you will be asked to change your password
16 If you have not pressed save or validate after a 30 minute period the
system considers the user idle and you will lose the data you have entered.
Make sure you save the form you are filling in OFTEN.
There are 3 sections in EPSS which you need to add information into:
17 Proposal setup: insert the name and email address of up to 3 referees.

Please be aware that the moment you provide a referees email address an automatic email is sent to
him/her, providing them with their own unique username and password which enables them to
complete the assessment form (see below). Referees will not have access to your application and you
will not have access to their assessment via EPSS. The referees assessments must be submitted by
the application deadline and it is your responsibility to make sure this is done on time. You will
receive an automatic email from EPSS when your referee has submitted their assessment. This is a
replica of the email your referee will receive from EPSS:

Dear Referee,
An applicant (NAME OF APPLICANT / APPLICANT EMAIL) has registered you as
a potential Referee assessor in his/her Marie Curie individual fellowship proposal
with the European Commission's 7th Framework Program Electronic Proposal
Submission Service (EPSS).
Your role, should you accept it, is to describe in detail the quality of the applicant,
regarding his/her research experience, aptitude and potential for high scientific
achievement. Specify how well you know the candidate. If relevant, please indicate
the applicant's overall rank in terms of marks/quality, compared to other
students/fellows whom you have supervised or supervise.
In order to accomplish this task you will have to connect, via the Internet, to the
EPSS service using the account details below and follow the instructions that we
enclose as attachment in this e-mail.
No Assessment letter will be accepted after the deadline: 14/08/2007 17:00 CET
No paper versions of the assessment letter will be accepted without a derogation
that can be granted in particular circumstances.
If you want more information about the proposal or other issues regarding your
Assessment letter you should contact directly the applicant.
During the evaluation your Assessment letter will be reviewed as supporting
material to the main proposal by the panel of our experts.

To connect to the Electronic Proposal Submission System, please open the
following site on your web browser: https://www.epss-fp7.org. Use the username
and password provided above to login.
We remind you that your Assessment letter will remain confidential and although it

is linked to the specific proposal the applicant does not have any access to it. In
addition, the applicant might have requested an assessment letter from up to 2
more referees.

using the Electronic Proposal Submission System.

19 A1: you are asked to provide the proposal title; the scientific panel the

proposal is being submitted to; the duration of the fellowship in months;


relevant keywords; an abstract (up to 2,000 characters); list whether
you have submitted a similar proposal to the Marie Curie programme,
state if the proposal includes any ethical issues detailed in part B of the
application.
A2: asks for information about The University of Limerick as the Host
Institution. A completed A2 for applicants to use is available. The only
missing information is that of the Person in charge in the Contact
Points section you need to obtain these details from the Limerick
academic that you will be working with.
A3: asks for information about you: address, qualifications, places of
activity
A4: asks the following:
duration in months of the fellowship;
whether you will be paid via a Fixed Amount Fellowship select Yes
Whether you are entitled to a mobility allowance (you are entitled to the

higher allowance if you have dependents moving with you);

26 The estimated distance between your location of origin and Limerick


use http://www.mapcrow.info/ to calculate the distance in kilometres
27 Is your research lab-based or non lab-based
28 The number of years of Post-graduate Research Experience at the call
deadline

Part B: this section has been prepared off line and now a PDF version needs
to be uploaded. The Guide for Applicants provides details on how this
section should be structures and what questions should be addressed. Only a
single PDF file comprising the complete Part B can be uploaded- there are no
annexes to be uploaded.

Click check validation to make sure you havent forgotten to fill in any boxes and
if the form is completed click on submit.
Please note: you must contact sharone.oloughlin@ul.ie at the Research Office
BEFORE you submit your application to the Commission in order to complete the
internal approval forms.
