DPS Test Taking Tips

Here are some helpful tips that all students should consider before heading
down to the DPS to take the test. The DPS test IS NOT a common sense test. It is
hard. Even if you are a stellar student in school, this test can be tricky.
The test will have very specific questions that will require special attention
while studying. While the test is hard, it is easily passable by a student that has
put in the proper studying time. Study time varies for each student, but careful
consideration to the following will really help.
-

Study the Module 1 Quiz (located just below the lessons on the M1 Homepage) and the 5
required Practice Quizzes (the ones you took in order to get the certificate). You can
take these quizzes as much as you need to in order to study for the test.

Take and study the 3 optional Practice Quizzes, located at the bottom of the M1
homepage. (M12 homepage for Block Method students).

Study the Texas Driver handbook. To be sure you have the most up-to-date handbook,
re-download the handbook from the first instruction on the M1 homepage. (if you
joined the course on or after 01/01/13 you should have the correct version). If you find
that you are having trouble with certain questions from our quizzes, search that topic in
your digital Texas Driver Handbook. (Edit > Find, in Adobe PFD reader)

Pay close attention to specific numbers such as DUI/DWI offense fine amounts (pg.
58-59), stopping distances (pg. 48), liability insurance requirements (pg. 21), speed
limits (pg. 49), and other types of distances (pg. 24, 36, 41, 43, 45, 50)

Study and review pedestrian and bicycle laws on pages 64-66.

Study and review safety belt laws on page 67.

Study and review ALL signs examples in our quizzes and from the Texas Driver
Handbook. (pgs. 28-35 and 38-40)

Study and review pavement markings and railroads crossings. (pgs. 36-37)

Study and review restricted vehicle equipment. (pgs. 18-19)

A proper amount of studying and an understanding of the material will help

you pass this test the first try, but remember, its all up to you. Take your time
studying, and we wish you the best of luck! You will be driving in no time!
