DO NOT OPEN UNTIL INSTRUCTED This is a closed book, closed note test with the
exception of 2 hand annotated 8 by 11 sheet of paper, of which, both sides can be
populated, and your own copy of the probability tables. Note sheets may be retained by the
student after the exam. Calculators are allowed. Use the space provided for each problem
to show your work for partial credit. You can also use the back of the test if additional space
is required. The test needs to be completed within the time allotted. There are 10 multiple
choice or true/false questions totaling 60 points, and 2 free response problems each worth 20
points for a total of 100 points. Answers for the multiple choice/true false must be recorded
on front sheet, but show your work next to the problem for partial credit. Space is provided
for the free response underneath the question itself. If more room is needed, use the back of
the page.

Section 1 (70 points) Answer the following 20 True/False or multiple choice questions.
Mark your answer on the cover page answer sheet. Please, only one answer per question,
otherwise you will not receive any credit for that question. Each question is worth 3.5
points. Show all of your work while working on each question so that incorrect answers can
be given partial credit when appropriate.

Increase the number of samples and recompute the interval
Use the t-distribution instead of the normal and this will make things better

Section 2 Answer the following problems. Show all work explicitly. Incorrect answer will
get partial credit based on approach and the work shown.

selected student, let X = the number of points earned on the first part and Y = the
number of points earned on the second part. Suppose that the joint pmf of X and Y is
