SCRIPT

The first group of the Sierra Leone contingent consisting of one hundred
sixteen personnel left Kismayo Thursday for Freetown after the conclusion of
their peacekeeping operations in Somalia. The contingent has been in the
country since April 2013.
Major David Mansare, one of the commanders of the contingent said, have
have done our job and we have done our peace, though we would love to stay
and see Somalia regain its full peace and its full status in the International
community. But we the Sierra Leonians as we are departing the shores of
Somalia, we wish the people of Somalia better days to come, we wish them
peace, we wish them stable Somalia and they will continue enjoying peace
and the legacy we are leaving behind let other people follow suit.
Major Mansare recalled the contingents early days in Somalia describing it as
full of instability but expressed gratitude that Kismayo has realised peace.
As part of its mission LEOBATT 1 provided oversight in civil military
relationship in Jubbaland region and other locations in Somalia. Because of
the peace, small scale businesses are thriving in the region.
Leobatt 1 was deployed in Dobley Headquarters, Tabda town and Kismayo.
Their deployment to Kismayo came after a directive that Leobatt should
manage Kismayo together with the other AMISOM multinational forces, the
Kenya Defence Forces and Burundi National Defence Forces.
