Dear Friends,

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus!!

There is no truth to the rumor that we have forgotten how
to write.
With being home on furlough we were really busy
and rushed. We do apologize for the length of time that has
passed since we last spoke.
We returned to Scotland on May 12th. The temperature in
Chicago when we left was about 88 degrees. When we landed in
Glasgow at 10:00 a.m., the temperature was about 41 degrees.
HOME SWEET HOME!!
We had snow showers for the first eight
days that we were home, and it has rained most of the other
eleven days.
We returned to a real touchy situation concerning our
house. The young woman who was house sitting for us was not

given a "Notice to Quit", which is required by law when one's

lease is up.

Therefore she was legally entitled to remain in

the house for another six months,

which would have left us

homeless.
But once again God worked it out that she would
find a nice little cottage to rent that fit her needs, and
she moved in about a week ago.
She is doing well, and we
have our house almost back to normal (define normal).
The dogs were over-joyed to have us back, as were the

folks at Forres Christian Church. The congregation remained

fairly stable while we were gone.
We did lose seven of the
young people that were coming, but we gained a young couple
who came from the London area. Their names are Murray and
Samantha Gillies. They came to us on the recommendation of a
Royal Air Force couple that left us to be transferred to
London.
Murray is in the Air Force and is stationed at
Kinloss, which is four miles from Forres.
They live in
Forres. We are certainly pleased to have Murray and Sam, and

would ask for your prayers for us and them as they serve with
us.

Pray also for the safe delivery of their first child

which is due any day.

There are some exciting things coming up.

While we were

on furlough) Good News Productions helped us to set up a

video library of doctrinally sound tapes.
One of the
problems here is finding teaching materials that are worth
teaching.
We have for some time now been importing our
Sunday School material from College Press. We are proud to
have

these resources- to

set up a

tapes

with

am

the

denominational churches in the area in hopes of making a

difference in their outlook. Please pray for this endeavor.
We are also looking toward our Holiday Bible Club time.
Once again it will be held over "Tattle Holiday" in October.
October sounds a long way off, but it will be here before we

know it. Coming before that is our Christian Service Camp.

Camp will be held the week of July 11th. We are looking for
between nineteen and twenty five children from Forres and

Buckle. Robert is Dean this year, and I will be teaching and

being a dorm dad. The theme this year will be "Family". If
there are any of you who would be able and willing to help
sponsor some of these children, it would be very greatly
appreciated.

The cost per child to feed and house them for

the seven days is fifty Pounds

per child.

$80.00 per child in American money.

That's about

The five children from

the Forres Church that want to go are from families which do

not have the funds to send them. If you can help out, please
send the funds to Mark Dace, marked for "Camp Fund" (*).
We are trying to sit down and evaluate our time in the

States, and to write thank-you notes.

I wanted to wait until

we returned home to send out personal thank-you*s. I do,

however, want to thank everyone who kept us in their homes,
fed us, and gave us funds to make our furlough possible. A
special thank-you to Brother Seth Wilson for the loan of a

vehicle for the time we were home; and to the First Christian
Church, in Michigan City, Indiana, for the use of their
hospitality apartment while we were in the area.

It would

have been a long walk without the Chinook, and a cold stay
outside. As close as I can figure, we drove almost 12,000
miles and flew over 7,000 miles, not including the flight to
and from Scotland. We also spoke about seventy five times
between Jeanne and I during furlough. We were very tired by
the time we got home. We are feeling better now, and getting
back in the swing of things.

We

have

had

major

problem

with

our

car

since

we

returned. The timing belt broke on Sunday night (May 30).

When the belt broke it caused some damage to the valve train,
bending five valves and breaking two valve lifters. What a
mess! The repair will be in the neighborhood of $500.00.

Also, the lawn mower was destroyed and the washing machine
gave up the ghost while we were gone, and both have had to be

replaced to the tune of $700.00.

Please pray for us that

nothing else goes wrong for awhile.

know God wants us

here, but I think Satan is mad that we returned.

Please continue to pray for us and the work that is being

done here. Pray for the members of Forres Christian Church,
that they will catch a vision of telling others about Jesus
on an every day basis.
Again, thank all of you who were

there for us while we were on furlough. And also for those

of you who are constant in your support of our work. We
couldn't be here without you!
In His Glorious Love,

c/ Jim

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in ttie name of our Lord, Jesus!

It is hard to believe that we have been home only three months!

In some ways itseems that we were never gone. We have settled
back into our house and routine.

Much has been going on since we retumed from furlough. In July

we had our Christian service camp forthe children from Forres and

Buckle churches. We had twelve in attendance, six boys and six

girls, along with eight staff. Robert and Idid all ofthe teaching, with
the Buckle folk doing crafts, music, recreation and cooking. The
theme for this year's camp was "God's Family/Our Family".
Everyone had a good time!
We are now getting our act together for our Holiday Bible Club,
which will run from October 18 through the 22nd. God answers
prayer in a mighty way! We were lacking people to serve In our Club,

and we were even in doubtif we would have itat all this year, so we
really prayed for the Lord's guidance. Well, It should come as no
surprise that we received a phone call from Tina Keeter, one of our

intems from lastsummer, asking if she and a friend could come help
us for iwo months this fall. Isaid to her, "you've got to be kidding!
I've been sitting here praying for someone to help with the Holiday
Bible Club!" Tina and her friend, Krista Curry, also from Joplin, will
arrive on September 21st, and be with us for about two months.
Praise the Lord!!

This past weekend, August 20th and 21st, we had our second

annual "Forres Christian Church Family Camp". We had eighteen in

attendance, seven adults and eleven children, including one young
man from the Buckle Church. We played gomes, and had devotions
and prayer time around the campfire. Not to mention singing and
eating (we even made smores). The weather treated us well, with
only about six minutes of rain. One of the games they play here is
called "rounders". It is a cross between cricket and American

baseball. The best two batters in the game were the two grandmas
in the church - Jeanne and Christine. They did have a slight mishap
at second base, and we thought we had a broken wrist to deal with,
but it was only sprained so Christine was alright.
Jeanne, however, is a mass of bruises from sliding into second.
Talk about pride - trying to show up the youngsters, and actually
doing it. It was good fun, and a wonderful day out for all of us.
I had the honor of performing a wedding on Friday afternoon,
August 20, in the park in Forres. There were numerous remarks

about how different it was compared to the ceremony that is done in

the Church of Scotland, but also how nice it was. There were about

one hundred people in attendance, with another thirty or so watching

from the bridge next to the park. We were Invited to the reception;
and when we arrived, I was told that I was to make my speech just
before the bride's father made his. What a surprise!
We regret to announce that our co-worker, Robert Caudle, will be
returning to the United States permanently at the end of October. He
has been on the field here for about seven years, and feels that he
has done all that he can here. We wish him all the best at whatever

he does back in the States, and we will really miss him here.
Because of this development, we are looking for a young, married
man to work with us here as a youth minister. We feel that the future
to evangelism here is in the youth. Jeanne and I would continue to
work with the adults and general evangelism. We would also like to

explore the possibility of starting another work in Elgin, about twelve

miles from Forres.

Thanks to all the help we received from you folks back in the
States, we were able to purchase a Canon PC11 copier. The price
for the copier was 1021.08 Pounds (about $1500.00). We didn't
realize how much we use a copier until we purchased this one.
Thanks to all of you who gave towards this project.
We miss all of you folks back in the States, but itsure is good to
be back home. We wish that each and every one of you could come
visit with us to see not only the work, but the beauty of this place.
We have had some visitors at Henckel manor since we lost wrote.

Marvin Brubaker was with us in July for a few days. Marvin and his
wife Charleen minister in Wisbech, England. Also in July, Ron and
Shiela Kelley from Sarosoto, Florida, were with us for a few days.
Matthew Harris, a student from Ozark Christian College, spent most
of a week with us. Matt was inteming with Ross and Cheryl Wissman
in Sawbridgeworth, England, and came to see how we do things
north of the border. We wish to extend our gratitude to those who
visited and encouraged us. We also had the opportunity to visitin
Inverness with Lynn and Barbara Gardner from Ozark Christian
College, and the folks that were with their tour. It was a wonderful
evening.

Thank you all for your love and concem for us - foryour prayers
and financial support. We could not survive without you.
In His Wonderful Love,

Jim and Jeanne Henckel

December 14,1993

Dear Supporters and Friends,

Its hard to believe that it is December already! Just a few days until
Christmas! The time is passing so quickly! I have not even mailed my Easter
cards yet and Christmas is around the comer! Do Isound excited? I hope so
because some delightful things are happening here.
This may not sound like much, but we received a phone call from one ofthe
local nursing homes in November asking us to come and sing for one of the old
folks birthday. You may say, "big deal". For us itis a .big deal because it is the first
time that anybody has called and asked us to do anything. We have always called
the nursing homes to ask if we could come sing for Christmas or to visit. They
have never called us. Notonlywere we invited to sing on the 27th of November,
but they asked If we were coming again this year for Christmas. We are finally
being recognized. Praise the Lord!!

Holiday Bible Club is overfor another year. We were blessed byfair

weather, and a reasonable turn out. We had 20 first-time children, and averaged
children each day of the week. We were really pleased. So far we have picked
up one new child for Sunday School, but we have not had the opportunity to call on
all the children that attended. We also are doing some different things this year.

We are going to send out postcards every week inviting the children to Sunday
School, and the parents to the Sunday Service. This will be an added expense for
us, but we teel that the Lord will provide if He wonts us to continue. Please pray
for this program, that we will be able to reach out in a different way than what we
have before.

Our Holiday Bible Club was a success tor one other reason. We were
helped by Sally Glen, who did all the crafts. Sally is a non-Christian, and mother of
the three children we baptized at the close of Holiday Bible Club last year. We

have gone through the "Ambassador's Peace Treaty" with Saiiy, but she has not
yet mode a committment to follow Jesus. However, she has become active in the
activities of the church. Please pray for Solly and her husband, Harold, that we
may lead them to Christ.
Some of the other things which we hove been thinking about tor ministry
include;

1.
2.

A seminar on parenting.
A seminar on the Holy Spirit.

3.

A "Dare to be a Daniel" after-school club.

4.

A morning Bible study.

Please pray for these endeavors. Also pray that we can encourage a young
couple to come work with us, mainly in the area of youth. Our co-worker, Robert
Caudle, left over a month ago, and we feel the loss very much.
I received a phone coll from our daughter, Pam, shortly after the last
newsletter was sent out. She was not amused that we forgot to announce the birth
of our first grandson, Allen Michael Hunter, bom on July 3,1993. I don't know how

we managed to miss getting that news out to you, but we did. Anyway, Pam, we
didn't forget this time.
Since this is our last newsletter until the new year, we want to take this time
to wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. May God
richly bless you in the coming year as we strive to serve Him to the glory of the
Father. And thank you so much for all the prayers and financial support that you

all hove given us through the year. You ore all very special to Jeanne and I, and
we wish you the very best for the holidays.

In His Love,

Jim & Jeanne Henckel
