LAM

Introduction
LAM 1998.7 provides full support for Windows NT hosted License services, Client and Server.
Known problems in LAM 1998.7 are described in these release notes as well as full installation
and uninstall instructions for LAM Server, including operating system support levels and required
installed software.
If you have any questions, call your Landmark Customer Services Representative.
LAM 1998.7 is certified for the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server and Workstation operating
systems and is not available for the Microsoft Windows2000, Microsoft Windows 95 or
Microsoft Windows 98 operating systems.

Year 2000 Tested

For Landmark Graphics, Year 2000 tested means our software products will continue to function
as stated, and their functionality and accuracy will not be affected as a result of any run date or
dates that are processed, regardless of which century the dates fall in. Landmark also recognizes
that Year 2000 is a leap year, therefore, Landmark ensures that our software products will
accurately read February 29, 2000 as a valid date.
As a guideline, Landmark uses the BSI DISC PD2000-1: A Definition of Year 2000 Conformity
Requirements as its basis for general integrity, date integrity, and explicit and implicit century
interpretation.
Clients should refer to Landmarks Year 2000 Web Site at www.lgc.com for release status and
news about our continuing commitment to this effort.

Printing Books from Adobe Acrobat Reader

When printing ranges of pages in Acrobat, you must use the status bar at the bottom of the Adobe
Acrobat Reader to get the most accurate indicator of which page you are looking at. The page
numbers at the bottom of an online page or other page number references in the online document
are not the page numbers that Acrobat uses when you select a range of pages in its Print dialog.
This situation is especially true in online books, where the table of contents uses one page
numbering scheme and the body of the book uses another.
For instance, in the OpenWorks Data Management online book, if you wanted to print a chapter,
follow a procedure similar to the following:
1. In the bookmark pane of Acrobat, select the name of the chapter that you want to print.
2. Note the page number in the status bar.
3. Display the last page in the chapter.
4. Note the page number of the last page in the status bar.
5. Select File > Print to display the Print dialog.
6. Enter the page numbers that you noted in the From and To text boxes in the Print dialog.
7. Click OK. Acrobat will then print the pages of the chapter.

Obtaining a Landmark License File

A license file must be obtained from Landmark Graphics Corporation before you can run the LAM
dependent applications. Request the license file from the following address:
http://www.lgc.com/support/licensing
The license file must be placed in a directory specified by the system environment variable
LM_LICENSE_FILE.
In the LAM installation (client or server), the default installation directory is C:\Landmark\LAM
and LM_LICENSE_FILE is automatically set to C:\Landmark\LAM\license.dat by the installer.
The license file, license.dat, should be placed in C:\Landmark\LAM.
There may be multiple directories specified by LM_LICENSE_FILE due to multiple products
using FLEXlm. If LM_LICENSE_FILE already exists, the LAM installer will append
C:\Landmark\LAM\license.dat to the end of this environment variable setting.
The location of the license file is not critical as long as LM_LICENSE_FILE specifies the location
of license.dat.

Note for users who are familiar with LAM UNIX licensing.
Windows NT does not require modifications to the DAEMON line in the
license.dat file. Modifications to the DAEMON line in the license.dat file are
required on UNIX systems only.

LAM Server Installation Warning

The desired operating system for a LAM Server installation is Windows NT 4.0 Server.
LAM Server may be installed on Windows NT 4.0 Workstations but this is not the recommended
configuration. Windows NT Workstation has networking limitations that prevent a high number of
network connections and could result in dropouts of service for a license server. Windows NT
Server is much better equiped for handling large volume network services.

LAM Server - Post Installation Notes

License Server Initial Startup
The license server is configured automatically upon LAM installation to become a system service
that starts up automatically. Once you have obtained a Landmark license file, make sure the file is
placed in the correct directory. To verify this:
1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Double-click the FLEXlm License Manager icon. The FLEXlm License Manager control
panel opens.
3. Select the Setup tab in FLEXlm License Manager control panel.
4. Select LGC License Application Manager as the current service name.
5. Check the path entered for license.dat. The default location is %LAMHOME%, which is
<driveletter>:\Landmark\LAM..
6. If the location of the license file is not %LAMHOME%, the License File value should be
changed.
7. Select the Licenses tab.
8. Click Show License File to verify the license file location. The license file license.dat will
open in Notepad. It should contain legible text on the top portion of the file.
Since the license server was automatically configured to start up upon reboot, the server should
already be running. However, you must restart the server to make it aware of the new license
file you installed.
9. Select the Control tab in FLEXlm License Manager control panel.
10. Restart the LGC License Application Manager:

First, click Stop to stop the License Manager.

Next, click Start to test whether the server starts. A message should appear telling you
that the server has started.

11. Click OK. The FLEXlm License Manager control panel closes.
