The Forces or Trends in Leadership

This week discussions surrounds the forces and trends in leadership and the effective
leadership development that requires a strong leadership strategy not just the implementation of
programs. It became clear in our class discussions that without proper leadership, even the best
and boldest strategies die, their potential never realized. Because leadership is more than the
individuals in leadership positions, a leadership strategy defines the companys leadership
requirements, including the number of leaders and at what levels these leaders should be, as well
as the skills, behaviors and capabilities these leaders should have and will need going forward.
Discussions on the forces or trends in leadership was very interesting Leadership styles
were discussed and different context of leadership. Different forces of leadership that affects
organizational culture was also discussed by class members (Charles , 2010). Previously I
learned about characteristics of leaders and their personal traits but this weeks learning provided
me with insights of how the future of leadership will be need to be adjusted to meet the demands
of a challenging business environment both local and global arenas . A leader has to face crises
management, respond to ethical issues, and use his authority to make organizational culture
work.
This weeks learning activities has broaden my knowledge of the forces and trends in
leadership and the innovative ways that leaders have to develop to open their minds to new
ideas, approaches , challenges and realities in the market place . As a scholar, the assignment
this week helped me in reading more about the future of leadership challenges. Discussions have
further helped in getting to know trending issues in the current workplace, their strength and
weaknesses, through employee interaction. As a leader, I would continue to practice my SPL
model and looking head to see further research of emerging leadership theories of the 21st
century. practicing my style of leadership and giving appraisals to my employees which means a
lot to them keep them motivated towards their assigned tasks (Goleman, Welch & Welch,

2012). I suspect that networking will play a prominent role in the future of leadership
development.
