The last week has been a momentous week for the town of Nenagh .

There
wasnt a final or medal won nor was there an international achievement but our
achievement was the result of very hard work and dedication by 3 individual
voluntary organisations who have made Nenagh a better place as a result of
their hard work. First up on Tuesday night I attended the launch of the Dive
Ireland International Dive show which is being hosted by the Lough Derg Sub
Aqua Club in the Abbey Court hotel between February 28 th and March 1st. It will
bring hundreds of Dive tourists to the town for the weekend with International
speakers and Dive Experts and companies interested in promoting their
products already in excess of last years exhibitors . The weekend will also host
an amazing underwater photographic exhibition and also speakers talking about
underwater wrecks off the coast of Normandy which will be of interest to fans of
World War 2 History. On Thursday at our municipal meeting we met with a
delegation of the local organisers from Ormond Comhaltas of Fleadh Ceoil na
Mumhan who outlined their plans to host the Munster Fleadh in Nenagh between
July 13th and July 17th bringing over 1000 competitors and thousands of
supporters and Fleadh lovers to North Tipperary for the week long festival of
outdoor and indoor concerts , ceilithe , work shops and street sessions. The
opening of the Scouts hall on Saturday night capped an amazing week. The
Scouts hall has long been a spiritual home for the Nenagh Choral society and it
was that fantastic committee that worked a miracle by coming up with the plan
and a money to re open Nenagh Scouts hall. I was honoured to be a Director of
the North Tipperary Leader company who gave a grant of 197,000 for the
refurbishment of the hall indeed In 2011 I chaired the public meeting by Nenagh
Town council looking for expressions of interest for the hall when the Nenagh
Choral society blew us away with their proposals. Saturday nights opening night
reignited the Showband era with music provided by Ebony, Crystal swing and
Keith McDonnell when a packed hall danced the night away in scenes not seen in
Nenagh since the 80s . The mix of people in the hall was truly amazing but the
real potential of the hall is that it will be a major attraction for visitors to the
town. Nenagh is blessed with voluntary organisations who constantly go above
their remit and organise events that attract tourists to Nenagh. The result of
these 3 fantastic organisations will result in a huge financial gain for Nenagh and
surrounding areas of North Tipperary. That is why I personally set up the Sports
Tourism grant in Nenagh which has been a huge success . Nenagh is firmly on
the map in terms of sports tourism . 2015 is going to be a great year for Nenagh
thanks to our voluntary organisations take a bow. Yours sincerely Cllr. Samie
