Month at a Glance
Rajab
By Dr.Dungersi
Sha'aban
The month of Dhul-Hijjah is one of those four sacred months mentioned in the Quran. It was the tradition of the companions of the
Prophet (S.A.W.W) and those pious Muslims who came after them , to observe intensely acts of worship as soon as the moon of
this month was sited. As a matter of fact, the first ten days of this month are very important and have been specifically singled out in
the Quran in verse 89:12 as stated below:
Ramadhan
Shawwal
Zilkaad
Dhul-Hijjah
Muharram
Over and above that, the Prophet (S.A.W.W), is reported to have described the significance of these days in the following words:
Safar
There are no days when Allah is as pleased with good deeds as He is in these ten days.
Rabi-ul-Awwal
The acts of worship strongly recommended in the first nine days are:
Rabi-ul-Aakher
Jamadi-ul-Awwal
Jamadi-ul-Akhar

Fasting: Fasting in the first nine days of this month earns the Thawab (reward) of fasting for the entire life time. The
culmination of these days comes on the Ninth Day: the DAY of ARAFA.
Remembrance of Allah: Several duas, supplications, recommended to be recited after regular daily prayers; these duas
can be found in such books as Mafatihul Jeenan by Sheikh Abbas Qumi and other similar sources.
The tenth day is the DAY of EID UL ADHHA.
We should also remember that on the 18th day of this month occurred the event of GHADEER, the day on which our Prophet
(S.A.W.W), having completed his final pilgrimage, on his way back to Medina, named his successor: Imam Ali (a.s). This day
therefore is a day of felicitation for all Muslims. One way to celebrate this day of Eid is to observe fasting for the pleasure of Allah
(S.W.T).

We must also remember to celebrate EID of MUBAHELAwhich falls on the twenty fourth of this month.
MayAllah give us strength to perform acts of worship to our best capacities in this month.
