Name of Faculty: RIA FAITH N. BISAHAN
Subject: Social Science 102

Descriptive Title: Philippine History, Roots and Development

Time: 7:30 AM 9:30 AM

Room: RM 29

Semester: SUMMER

Year: 2013

Number of students: 47

Title of method / technique: Computer-assisted instruction (power point

presentation) and microteaching
Description of the teaching technique: Computer-assisted instruction (or CAI, for
brevity) are instructional activities that use a computer as the primary vehicle for
teaching content or processes rather than one-to-one interaction with a student.
Microteaching, on the other hand, is an excellent way to build up skills and confidence,
to experience a range of lecturing/tutoring styles and to learn and practice giving
constructive feedback. Microteaching gives students an opportunity to safely put
themselves under the microscope of a small group audience, but also to observe and
comment on other people's performances. The focus of micro teaching is to teach
within a small group, giving each individual within the group a chance to practice a
concept or skill. The small group size allows for more one-on-one interaction time
between the students and the teacher. Often the students within a micro teaching
environment are required to give presentations or perform tasks in front of the group.
After each student presents or performs a task, he is given feedback on his
performance
from
both
the
instructor
and
his
peers.
Topic: 100 Significant Events in Philippine History
Objectives:
(1) To identify and analyze the 100 significant events in Philippine History;
(2) To evaluate the implications of these significant events to the present;
(3) To train and enhance the communication and class presentation skills of
Philippine History students; and
(4) To evaluate their learning on the topic through a quiz bowl format.
Materials:
(1) DLP and laptop
(2) Power Point Presentation (presented by the faculty member)

(3) Illustration board with pictures and description of assigned topic

(4) Quiz Bowl materials (e.g. scoreboard, chalk, answer pad, etc.)

Procedure:
(1) Computer-assisted instruction. A lecture will be given by the faculty member

inside the classroom using a power point presentation containing the first 20
significant event in Philippine History. The events will be chronologically
discussed showing a picture for every historical event with a brief description of
the same. The power point presentation will serve as a guide to students who
would later on be assigned to one significant historical event. After which,
students would be required to make a visual aid for the assigned topic using a
size illustration board.
(2) Microteaching. For the microteaching, the venue of the class was transferred to

the BSU Quadrangle. As a preliminary to the microteaching, students lined up

their illustration boards for viewing of the entire class. After viewing all the
illustration boards, students were then assigned to discussion groups and each
student will take turns in discussing their topic within the group. Members of
each group may ask questions or give their feedback about the topic. The
questions and feedback from the members of the discussion group will help the
student improve his/her discussion to be redelivered later to the entire class.
(3) Class Discussion and Open Forum. Every student is given at most 3 minutes

to discuss their assigned topic and students may raise queries relevant to the
topic.

Evaluation/Assessment:
(1) Quiz Bowl. Students will be randomly grouped into 10 groups with at most 5

persons per group. The quiz bowl has three (3) rounds with successive difficulty
namely, (1) Easy Round: True or False; (2) Moderate Round: Proper Sequence;
and (3) Difficult Round: Identification. Each round has 10 questions with different
point system, specifically 1 point for each correct answer for the Easy Round, 2
points for the Moderate Round and 3 points for the Difficult Round. Their points
for the quiz bowl will be recorded as their quiz for this topic.
(2) Re-evaluation discussion. The faculty member and students would have to

reevaluate their understanding of the topic by discussing their difficulties during

the quiz bowl to identify specific topics that were not properly discussed.
