What are shop floor statuses in Oracle WIP ?

What are shop floor statuses in Oracle WIP ?
You define shop floor statuses in WIP and assign these statuses to intraoperation steps of the
work in process routing operations. Shop floor statuses can be used to control/stopping shop

floor move transactions due to various reasons. For example there could be some quality
problem in the materials being used in manufacturing. You can view these statuses during
move transactions you can define as many shop floor statuses as are required.
When assigned to an intraoperation step of an operation that is associated with a particular
repetitive line and assembly, the status applies to all repetitive schedules building that
assembly on that line. You can remove or unassign shop floor statuses once your problem is
over.

Could some one explain me the definition of Shopfloor Management definition and purpose of this
module with suitable example?
Shop floor Manufacturing example as follow:-

We have multiple raw materials/ subassemblies but when we should pick what kind of item or
subassembly will be predefined via routings.

Ex:- Semiconductor, to manufacture this, we need to define routing @ what stage which item or
assembled product or item we need to pick is predefined process, if any new enhancements
required in this product, routings need to be redesign and use the same.

Semiconductor Manufacturing is the original intended market for OSFM .

Oracle started developing this product about 12 years ago and had been refining it with each
release since.
Lot-based manufacturing is the core competency of OSFM. Lot traceability through the MFG
process as a key indicator that OSFM will be a good fit.

Hi
OSFM Oracle Shop Floo Management was created for Semin Conductor Industry

OSFM is derived from WIP, but it base around transformation instead of assembly

It uses standard BOM and Network routing....

The goal of OSFM is to trace all the transformations made on a lot.

All transformation stages are acted by a lot based work order..

The lot number remain the same through all the operations.

OSFM manages efficiency at the network routing level and co-products.

(http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?787813) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL), the largest provider of

software for e-business, today announced the availability of Oracle Shop Floor Management (OSFM), a
web-based solution that is designed to support continuous improvement for manufacturers competing in
time-critical markets by improving the availability of information generated on the production shop floor.
As a part of the Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Shop Floor Management is the only software solution
available in the market that bridges the gap between traditional Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES),
and the enterprise level software systems that manage business and supply chain activities across
multiple manufacturing locations. By continually collecting and delivering information from the shop floor
in real-time OSFM allows manufacturers to proactively adjust processes and procedures, which in turn
helps reduce costs and material waste while improving customer service.

Silterra Malaysia Sdn., Bhd., Malaysia's premier manufacturer of semiconductor wafers, is one of several
companies that have recently gone live on Oracle Shop Floor Management. "In order to proactively
respond to issues related to customer service, quality, and performance, it is essential for us to have
continual access to real time production information," said John Lim, Vice President, IT, Logistics, Material
at Silterra. "This seamless integration through Oracle Shop Floor Management helps us gather critical
business information such as work in process and cost analysis data instantly for internal controls, as well
as valuable product tracking data for our customers."
Oracle Shop Floor Management provides manufacturers with complete front-end to back-end supply
chain visibility, across multiple manufacturing fabrication sites and facilities. Products and lots can be
traced from finished goods back to raw materials through all sectors of manufacturing, across all
organizations, enabling a user to trace the source of defects and/or satisfy regulatory compliance issues.
Users can also accomplish detailed tracking and analysis of production jobs, perform production lot splits
and merges, and dynamically change products and attributes. By viewing key performance indicators
related to the true yielded cost at the operational level, users can also provide competitive pricing driven
by accurate margin analysis.
In addition, Oracle Shop Floor Management enables manufacturers to exploit the virtual factory model
where for example, a design engineer can be in the United States, a fabrication facility can be in
Malaysia, a testing operation can be in the Philippines, and all these can be connected to the Oracle EBusiness Suite over the Internet.
"As part of Oracle's E-Business Suite, Oracle Shop Floor Management is fully Internet deployed in a
single data repository resulting in a software infrastructure that is flexible, scaleable and easy to maintain.
All data is synchronized ensuring that at any given time, all users across the enterprise will have the same
view of information obtained from the shop floor," said Rick Jewell, Vice President, Manufacturing
Applications, Oracle Corp. "The introduction of Oracle Shop Floor Management is the latest example of
Oracle's continuing advancements in developing solutions for the competitive manufacturing
environment."

Overview of Network Routings

Network routings in Oracle Shop Floor Management, comprise all possible operations defined
for manufacturing a particular assembly. While discrete jobs use standard routings, lot based jobs
use network routings. The primary feature of network routings is, based on the results of an
operation, to define different paths for the next operation. However, there must be a unique start
and last operation defined in the network. When this information is captured, a network of
operations is available for processing a lot based job on the shop floor.
You define two major aspects to create this functionality. First, all the possible allowable
operations are defined in the Oracle Shop Floor Management Routings window as shown in the
following illustration. Operation yield information for costing updates is also defined in the
Operation Yield tab of this window.

Next, the network operations are defined in the Routing Network window. Here the primary and
alternate paths are outlined, and the percentage each is likely to be used. This percentage is used
by Advanced Supply Chain Planning.
The combination of definitions provides for dynamic, flexible operation of a job. There are
numerous possibilities in executing a routing and any one of these can be based on the outcome
of the last operation performed. However, there must be a unique starting operation and a unique
ending operation in the entire network.
As seen in this illustration, the first example shows the Network - that is, the entire network of
the routing and all operations that the WIP Lot can use.

The next example - Primary Path - shows the main path that a job is most likely to follow.
And the third example - Actual Completion Path - shows the real route a particular job moved.
This path could be the primary path or any of the other valid paths defined in the network. In the

illustration, the job deviates from the primary path after operation B, and moves to operation C
instead of D.
Once a complete network routing is defined for a sector, a WIP lot begins at the first operation of
the network. As the job completes the first step, you select the next operation in the network.
This can be the operation on the primary path, or any valid alternate paths. The process continues
until the job reaches the last step when the job is completed.
