Abstract
This section contains a brief description of the papers content. This may introduce the research
problem and a hint of the results.
Keywords - general terms to which the research is related, terms that when searched will possibly
refer to this paper
I.

Introduction

This section provides an overview of the research topic. This may include a background of the
study, a statement and description of the problem and a discussion of its significance. You may
also include a sneak peak of the tools and techniques to be used. A synopsis or description of the
papers organization may be included here.
II.

Preliminaries and Theoretical Framework

This section entails a concise definition of terms that will be used in the remainder of the paper.
Then a discussion of the theoretical framework such as the existing methods or techniques and the
employed methodology follows.
III.

Results and Discussions

This section contains the meat of your paper. This is where you will present your results. You
may include a discussion on how you applied the methods you described in the previous section.
Make sure that all relevant data and analyses are included here. Most importantly, you should
have a paragraph or two that summarizes your results in connection to your problem.
Finally, cite all your references in the prescribed bibliographic format such as the ones given
below.

Possible Problems
1. Approximation of the area of a place, e.g. UPLB, Laguna, etc using integration techniques
2. Approximation of the volume of some iconic figures such as UPLB bollards or the Oblation
3. Modeling of the spread of a disease such as Ebola
4. Modeling of the behavior of a stock price (preferably with a recommendation on either selling,
buying or holding on the stocks)
5. An expository paper about an interpolation, numerical differentiation or integration technique not discussed in the class (papers in this category must include an example of the
chosen methods application using real-world data)
6. Others. You may opt to formulate your own problem as long as in solving such you will
employ techniques of interpolation, numerical differentiation or integration, or combinations
thereof to real world data. The more novel the problem the better.

Scoring your outputs

Your output will be graded on the scale 0 to 15, corresponding to the Projects 15% weight to
your total grade. The grade will be determined via the following criteria.
1. Technical Content. Of course your paper must contain a sound methodology and an
accurate implementation thereof. Your results must answer the problem that you chose. A
discussion of your solutions accuracy, such as error and stability analysis will definitely boost
your score in this criterion. Remember: soundness, correctness, and depth of content.

10pts
2. Novelty. An innovative, unique and new approach in solving your chosen problem is definitely a plus. You may employ a technique that was not discussed in class or or may even
propose a new solution to the problem by combining known techniques or even inventing
your own. If your solution is similar to others which is patterned only on lecture slides, then
you will get the base score 1.5 from this criterion (of course there may be exceptions here).

3pts
3. Presentation. Your results, however brilliant it is, will be meaningless if not presented
well. A nice, concise but thoughtful presentation of your paper will surely add impact to
your paper. Watch out for your grammar and the coherence, and organization of your work
