Human Trafficking and Human Rights

Kristine Rivall
Kristine is a believable spokesperson on
this topic. She will not only inform us, but
she will talk about how we can help in this
serious issue with regard to human rights.
She was the president of the antitrafficking club at UW-Eau Claire, and aided in international research on trafficking
and immigration. She also studied in China for a semester and during that time did
research on trafficking there. In Eau Claire
she mobilized the community and college,
organizing groups to train local law enforcement, hotel/motel owners, and university police to see the signs of trafficking.
She has also worked with Polaris Project
in communication and grass roots organizing, as well as some international organizations that fight sex trafficking such as
IJM.

Strategic Planning Survey:

What Are Your Hopes for Our Fellowship in the Future?
In our last Strategic Plan, we envisioned a building of our own, then worked to make it a reality. Our board has decided
its time to refresh our strategic plan, and identify and agree upon new goals. Cathy Edwards will facilitate the process.
Accompanying this newsletter is a 2-page survey that invites your ideas and input. The survey is a key opportunity
to express your thoughts and feelings about the Fellowship. Your input is crucial to planning for our future.
Members, Friends and Visitors of the Fellowship are invited to respond to the survey. Please complete the survey and
return it to the survey box in the coat room, or mail it to the Fellowship. We hope to receive all responses by Sunday,
February 15th.
This strategic planning process was launched during our program on Sunday, Jan 4. 32 members and friends participated; they reflected on and answered a couple of questions. Here are the uplifting answers they shared to one of the questions:

GLOBE

Looking for an environmentally friendly general purpose product for around the house? GLOBE is providing some
excellent suggestions below. Sources indicate that theres no need to waste your expensive Greek or Spanish Extra Virgin for these tasks, just grab a bottle of inexpensive, domestic olive oil and try these tips.
For a close shaveOlive oil can provide a safe and natural lubricant. Once finished, rub in a little extra after
washing.
Wood Furniture PolishWipe with a teaspoon of olive oil and a soft rag. Mix in a bit of vinegar or citrus juice to
bulk up the cleaning power and add a fresh scent.
Fingernails Use a bit of olive oil to moisturize cuticles, or mix oil and water and soak your hands before a manicure.
Create a non-stick surface for kitchen toolsRub or spray olive oil on your measuring tools for easy clean-up of
sticky substances like honey, grain mustards, and sugary syrups.
Control hair frizzComb a bit of olive oil through dry hair to tame the frizz and flyaways on humid days or in the
winter.
Free a stuck zipperUse a cotton swab to apply olive oil to the teeth of a zipper and gently ease the tab down.
Care for your kittyAdd a teaspoon of olive oil to your cats food to help prevent hairballs and provide a shiny
coat.
DIY Lip balmMix olive oil and melted beeswax in a 1:1 ratio with an essential oil for fragrance, and say goodbye
to dry and chapped lips.
Shine stainless steel and brassRub with a bit of olive oil on a clean rag to prevent streaks, corrosion, and tarnish.
As you batheAdd a few tablespoons of olive oil to your running bath water. Youll be amazed when you towel off.
Remove makeupDab a bit under your eyes, on your cheeks and forehead, then wipe with a damp cloth.
Remove paint from your skinRub olive oil onto messy hands, arms, or faces. Allow the oil to soak into the skin
for five minutes, then rinse with soap and water.
Stop a throat tickleTake a sip of olive oil to stop the itchy flicker that is making you cough.
Lubricate hingesUse a rag or cotton swab to apply olive oil to the top of a problematic hinge in your home or
automobile.
Condition leatherRub olive oil into worn leather, such as a baseball glove, and let set for 30 minutes, then wipe
away any excess. (spot test first). For shiny shoes, rub them with just a spray of oil to maintain their shine.

FEBUARY 2014

The day-to-day life of our fellowship is the glue that holds our spiritual community together. Unitarian Universalism approaches the more "secular" aspects of fellowship life with the same religious intent as it's worship. Our religious education classes, adult activities groups, community volunteerism and building facilities committees are essential aspects
of our spiritual work. We believe it is our deeds, not our creeds, which are most important.
Every day we have people helping the Fellowship in ways that
allow our community to thrive. Whether you are a board member,
on a committee, you make coffee, do dishes, vacuum, shovel
snow, rack leaves, plan a garden, help coordinate a service or you
do one of the other countless tasks, the time and talents you share
is incredibly important for our Fellowship community. Please know
you are immensely appreciated.

The history of the big money takeover of our democratic system.

What roles do Citizen United and subsequent Supreme Court rulings play?
Why do we need to have a U.S. constitution amendment to reclaim democracy?
What is the Price We Pay for accepting a Pay to Play political system?
How can you play a role in building the Democracy Reform movement we need?

Sadly, our politicians are trapped by the system: if their campaigns dont accept the huge amounts of money, they cant get elected; if they do accept the money

This is a non-partisan issue: every single

Tai Chi Ch'uan is a traditional Chinese exercise and martial art that is often described as moving meditation. The Tai Chi form consists of a series of movements that are done slowly with
attention to the alignment of the body. Chi means energy and doing the form enhances the
natural circulation of the body.
Tai Chi is a gentle exercise, which is suitable for people in a wide variety of physical conditions and does not require special clothing or equipment. Like yoga, regular practitioners will
experience better flexibility, increased strength, and improved general health. Tai Chi also
helps calm the busy mind as one of its five basic principles is relax. As you learn to relax during physical movement, you apply the practice to your life and avoid the impulse to tense
your body when everyday stressors influence your mental state. Beginners are welcome and
you do not need to be especially coordinated to learn the form.
