Ss discuss these questions in small groups, then report back to the whole class

Background notes
Gwyneth Paltrow was born in Los Angeles, but her family moved to New York
when she was eleven. Her first stage appearance was a walk-on (small) part when she

was five, in a production her mother was also acting in. In later summer holidays she
continued to take parts in plays but the parts got bigger. She often appeared in plays
with her mother, and in her early career was often referred to as 'Blythe Danner's
daughter'. Steven Spielberg was a friend of the family and the story is that he decided to
cast Gwyneth as Wendy, in Hook, while he queued to see a film with her and her father!
Gwyneth has had relationships with other film stars, Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt. In fact
for some time she was best known as Brad Pitt's girlfriend. But she is now very much a
star in her own right, starring in 'big' films such as Seven as well as the smaller
productions she prefers, and her Oscar should make sure her success continues.
