NelsonMandelafoughtforequalityinSouthAfricabyjoiningorganizationsliketheAfricanNational
Congressandagitatingviolentlyforequality.Hisactionsledtosomejailtime,wherehestudiedlaw,
andbecameinspiredbyGandhi,thenonviolentactivist.After,hechangedhiswaystoamorepeaceful
approach.HewaschosentobecomethefirstblackSouthAfricanPresidentandmodeledforgiveness
totheentireNation.

Forourprojectwechoseoneofthemanyfamouslywellknownleaders,NelsonMandela.Wecreatedathesis
statementthatshowedwhathismaingoalthroughouthiswholelifewas.Weincludedsomeofthemost
importantkeypointsinhislifethathelpedblackpeople,inourwebsitepages.InSouthAfrica,theapartheid
systemwasonethingthatreallygavenoequalitytoblacks.Foroverthreedecades,whitepeoplpeinSouth
Africawereincontrol.Nelsonwasanimportantleaderthattheylookeduptoand

WefeelthisprojectintegratesLeadershipandLegacybecauseNelsonMandelaisagreatcandidatethat
showsthosequalities.HewasgreatlyknownforallhisaccomplishmentsinSouthAfricaandhowhemanaged
tokeepfightingafterallhisyearsinprison.Notonlydidhehelpabolishapartheid,buthealsobecamethefirst
blackpresidentinSouthAfrica.

A. Whathistoricalquestiondidyoustartoffwithandhowdiditchangeonceyou
begandoingyourresearch?

Fromthebeginningwehadthisquestioninmindbecausewealreadyhadprior
knowledgeonNelsonMandelaandhowgreatofaleaderhewas.Wejustmanagedto
comeupwiththequestionbyincorporatingwhatweknewhethathewasgreatlyknown
for,hisleadershiptobringingequalitytoSouthAfrica?

B. Whatkindsofsourcesdidyouuseasevidencetodevelopyourargument(for
example,letters,photographs,governmentdocuments,interviews,etc.)?

Mostlywhatourgrouphadusedtodevelopourargumentwasphotographsand
speechesthatweregivenbyhim.

C. Selectonepieceofevidencethatyouusedandexplainhowitinfluencedyour
argument.

WehadmanagedtofindadatatableonSouthAfricaspopulationthatshowedagreat
populationdifferenceinthetimeoftheapartheidsystem.Itshowedthattherewasa
whiteminorityandblackmajority,butyetthewhitepeoplewereinchargeandthatreally
comestoshowhowmuchinequalitytherewasbetweenthepeople.
