(b) Weaknesses
During group presentations i.e. forum, some of the speakers were unable to organize their
arguments into such compelling and convincing justifications.
Students were given ample time to prepare but when it comes to answering the questions
spontaneously some were unable to response with the correct sentence structures. In
addition, some speakers had panic attack and were unable to response in a natural way.
For the weak students, teachers had to guide them in drafting the responses beforehand in
order to help them.
Average students however, had problems in delivering responses in organized ways and
appropriate English sentence structures although they showed some understandings of the
topic.
( c) Errors
(a) Strengths
Proficient students were able to pronounce the words with acceptable pronunciation and
pausing. They also were able to use the correct intonation such as they would stress on a
bit of their intonation when they wanted to emphasis on something. This causes the
presentations became lively and not monotonous.
(b) Weaknesses
Average to below average students scored lower on fluency because of the influences of
their mother tongues. The students tended to translated their ideas in accordance to their
mother tongues sentence structures and thus jeopardized their deliveries. As such,
spontaneous responses were filled with awkward pauses as they were taking the time to
arrange their utterances.
Pronunciation and emphases also influenced by students first language. Tone was
generally monotonous as many of them memorized their scripts. Lack of practices caused
them to leave out the /s/ sound and also /-ed/ for the past tense verbs.

(a) Strengths
Sufficient preparation time helped students in organizing their ideas and giving them
confidence to present. Proficient students spoke loudly and clearly, using sentence
connectors to smoothen the flow of their ideas. Hand gestures were used appropriately to
further emphasise their points.
(b) Weaknesses
As most students were given time to prepare, a huge barrier to coherence was the soft
voices of a number of presenters during group and individual-to-class presentations. Lack
of confidence causes the speakers to reduce their loudness in time and their responses
were not heard by the teachers sitting at the back of the class. Teachers had to remind the
students to speak up and thus disrupted the presentations.
Some weak students were too lazy to prepare and decided to just have a go with it.
Naturally, their serious grammatical errors impeded the comprehension. For some, doing
a debate was beyond them and they became rather repetitive with their points, saying the
same thing in different ways.
(c ) Errors
1.4 Speak the language using a wide range of appropriate vocabulary within context :
a) Strengths
Proficient students were able to use vocabulary that accurately described their
feelings. For example, instead of using hungry the proficient students chose to use
famished. Some also used expressions like an arm and a leg.
b) Weaknesses
Some average students tried to use sophisticated vocabularies in order to impress the
teachers. However, they were of wrong usage and causes awkward sentences.
Weak students were limited to short sentences without much variation because of
their limited vocabulary. As such, they were not able to expand on their points or give
as much descriptive detail. There were also some cases of appropriate vocabulary
used.
c) Errors
(b) Weaknesses
Grammatical errors did happen due to the reason teachers did not have time to edit every
single script. During spontaneous questions, there were more errors made. Students who
chose not to prepare beforehand had trouble in expressing themselves. Several were
asked
to repeat after the teachers to get anything comprehensive out.
