This British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Engineering
Sector Board and is the English language version of EN 288 Specification and
approval of welding procedures for metallic materials Part 6. Approval related
to previous experience, published by the European Committee for Standardization
(CEN).
EN 288-6 was produced as a result of international discussions in which the
United Kingdom took an active part.
There has previously been no direct British Standard equivalent to this standard.
It is assumed that the execution of the provisions of this document is entrusted to
suitably qualified and experienced persons.
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a
contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.
Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity
from legal obligations.

welding of aluminium and its alloys;
Part 5: Approval by using approved welding
consumables for arc welding;
Part 6: Approval related to previous experience;
Part 7: Approval by a standard welding
procedure for arc welding;
Part 8: Approval by a pre-production welding
test.
This European Standard shall be given the status of
a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by

EN 288-6:1994
0 Introduction
2 Normative references
1 Scope
This standard simplifies the conditions for approval
of a welding procedure based on previous experience
according to EN 288-1. In addition it gives the range
of approval and the validity.
This standard applies to fusion welding of metallic
materials. The process numbers refer to EN 24063.
Essentially this standard covers the following
processes:

3 Definitions
For the purpose of this standard, the definitions
listed in EN 288-1 shall apply.
EN 288-6:1994
8 Validity
The approved welding procedure based on previous
experience is valid as far as the welding production
is carried out in the specified range, see clause 6.
9 Documentation
The pWPS accepted by the examiner or a test body
signed and dated is then an approved welding
procedure and is to be retained on record by the
manufacturer.
7 Range of approval
The range of approval given to a welding procedure
approved in accordance with this part of this
standard shall be as given in the appropriate Part of
EN 288, e.g. EN 288-3 and EN 288-4.
An approval of WPS obtained by a manufacturer is
valid for welding in workshops or sites under the
same technical and quality control of that
manufacturer.
