ABRASION RESISTANCE

For average to severe working conditions

Our MULTITRANS range is used for conveying all types of
materials, in bulk, cold (<80C) and neutral, in all extraction
and transformation industries, under average to severe
working conditions.

Areas of application
Quarries/sand pits (grain size < 400 mm)
Thermal power plants (coal, ash)
Cement works (quarry materials, added materials, cold
clinker)
Fertiliser factories / Chemical plants
(non chemically aggressive materials)
Port installations (ores, coal, phosphates)
Mining/Iron and Steel Industry (ores, coke, added
materials)
Paper mills (wood, edgings)
Salt marshes / Salt works
Sugar factories (sugar beet and sugar beet chips)
Glassworks (raw materials, cullet)

Our MULTITRANS belt consists of 3 to 5 EP (polyester warp

and polyamide weft) synthetic fabric plies with a rubber
interface, the thickness of which varies according to the type.
The low-elongation polyester fibres are used in the warp
direction to reduce the length of the tension travels
The more elastic polyamide fibres are used in the weft, to
ensure good troughing.
The carcass is protected by covers of D grade (superior
quality anti-abrasive) which is recommended for very
abrasive products and sharp materials (Abrasion loss as per
NFT 46012, ISO 4649 and DIN 53516, average value
100 mm3). These belts can also be produced with X, Y or Z
cover grades standardised as per DIN 22102.

ABRASION RESISTANCE

STANDARD RANGE

METALCORD
ABRASION RESISTANCE

2 WEFTS
SEMPERTRANS offers you an INCOMPARABLE and UNRIVALLED STRUCTURE: THE METALCORD
RANGE More than 40 years of know-how

METALCORD belts are manufactured with two types of

carcass (warp cords and weft cords):
- Carcass with elastic M warp cords (4x7 construction),
strong impact resistance, particularly suitable for:
conveyors with small pulley diameters
curved conveyors with small radii
severe conditions of use
frequent stopping and starting

We guarantee excellent rubber penetration and high

adhesion values.
Our open type cord design, our expertise in chemical
adhesion between cords and rubber and our 40-bar
vulcanisation process give the belt very high cord adhesion.
Only the METALCORD belt has its own carcass, with 3
layers of metal cords (cords of variable elasticity). This type
of construction presents various advantages. These include:
excellent cord/rubber adhesion
resistance to repeated shocks
resistance to penetration
ability to eject foreign bodies
limiting of longitudinal cuts and tears
possibility of total wear of covers
aptitude for winding on small pulley diameters
aptitude for accepting small convex radii of curvature
good efficiency at joint
possibility of fastener jointing
easy emergency repairs

- Carcass with reduced-elasticity E warp cords (7x7

construction), high breaking strength, particularly suitable for
applications with conveyors with large centre distances.
Our weft cords are specially designed (ten times more elastic
than the warp cords) and enable very good troughing
whatever the width of the belt.
Example: 35 trough, width 800 mm, type 2250 N/mm.
- Belt complying with standard EN ISO 15236

CROWN OF PULLEYS.
M CORD BELT
On a trough type conveyor, M cord belts function correctly without a crown. However, on conveyors with a small centre
distance, the crown is an effective element for the centring of a belt. It is in this case tolerated with the limits f<0.01 x pulley
diameter.

E CORD BELT
Crown prohibited in all cases.

ADVANTAGES

METALTRANS
1 WEFT
ABRASION RESISTANCE

SEMPERTRANS offers you its METALTRANS range

The METALTRANS belt consists of an assembly of two layers
of rubber-core impregnated cords.
Genuine carcass consisting of:
one layer of cords in the warp direction
one layer of cords in the weft direction
(instead of two for the METALCORD belt)
Our METALTRANS belt is constructed with cords equally
tensed individually, just like the METALCORD belt.
Each layer of cords, warp and weft, is separated by a layer
of rubber to avoid any risk of fatigue corrosion.
Belt complying with standard EN ISO 15236.

M CORD BELT
On a trough type conveyor, M cord belts function correctly without a crown. However, on conveyors with a small centre

diameter.

E CORD BELT
Crown prohibited in all cases.

ST/SEMPERCORD

The carcass is composed of warp cords with low elongation (elongation under reference load 0.2 0.3%).
Their number and diameter depend on the breaking strength of the belt. The transverse reinforcements consist:
- either of specific transverse metal cords with very high elasticity,
- or polyamide fabric.
These transverse reinforcements can be included in the carcass, in which case they are called the weft.
These transverse reinforcements can be included in the thickness of the cover, in which case they are called the breaker.

ABRASION RESISTANCE

CONSTRUCTION OF BELTS WITH TRANSVERSE REINFORCEMENTS

ST/SEMPERCORD

ABRASION RESISTANCE

BELT CONSTRUCTION
Covers: excellent resistance to abrasion, ageing and light.
Bonder rubber: Adhesion to galvanised cords and to covers:
excellent rubber penetration, high shear modulus, resistance
to revulcanisation and ageing.
Transverse reinforcement: depending on the application,
with or without transverse textile or metal breaker /weft.

Stranding

Stranding

The standard cords are hot-galvanised and have diameters

of 3.7 to 11.2 mm and 7x7 or 7x19 constructions
depending on the diameter (other constructions are possible).
Brass-plated cords can be used. The construction of the cords
enables good penetration and distribution of the rubber.
Owing to an efficient chemical process, we obtain excellent
rubber-metal adhesion. This chemical adhesion between
cords and rubber and the construction of the cords
guarantee excellent holding power which is in all cases
greater than that demanded by the standards. The good
penetration of the rubber and the good adhesion of each
cord ensure that Sempercord belts have an exceptional
service life.

Cord construction

The abrasion index, breaking strength and breaking

elongation values of the covers depend on the grade of the
cover mixtures chosen (X, Y, W, etc.).

TRANSFLAM
ANTI-STATIC SAFETY BELTS
Depending on the conditions of use (surface or bottom) and
the level of safety demanded, the various international (or
national) standards define the tests which the belts must
undergo to meet the criteria defined by these standards.
In addition, certain countries demand specific approvals for
underground uses, mainly in coal mines.

The TRANSFLAM range is a range specially designed to

meet the safety requirements of various industries.

These belts are designed mainly:

to prevent the propagation of an accidental fire
to guard against risks of explosion due to the accumulation
of static electricity

TRANSLEV EDG S
ELEVATOR BELTS WITH JGS COVER
The JGS cover ensures:

The TRANSLEV structure consists of three or four plies of

woven fabrics (polyester warp/polyamide weft) with a
fireproof rubber interface.

Resistance to vegetable and animal oils

Flame resistance as per standard ISO 340, NF EN
20340, EN 20340 and DIN EN 20340 grade S
Anti-static quality as per standard ISO 284, EN 20284,
EN 20284 NF EN 20284 and DIN EN 20284
Complying with ministerial order no. ATEP 987 0265 A
of 29/07/98

The JGS cover has been specially developed to answer the

two major problems involved in handling of cereals:
expansion in contact with fatty substances (maize, peanut,
sunflower, etc.)
risk of explosion/propagation of fire
With regard to this, our TRANSLEV EDGS range answers
these two problems since it complies with the fire-proofing
standards designated above and presents good resistance
to expansion in contact with oils and greases of vegetable
and animal origin.

OIL AND GREASE RESISTANCE

These EDG elevator belts with JGS cover can also be used
in areas presenting risks of explosion.

This EDGS range with JGS cover is manufactured in grade S

(as defined in ISO 340, NF EN 20340, DIN EN 20340
and EN 20340) as regards fireproofing, i.e. with
inflammable cover and carcass. Thus, even when the cover
is torn off, the belt remains fireproof and still meets the criteria
of the standard.

TRANSPROFIL
STEEP GRADIENT CHEVRONS
TRANSPROFIL belts have 15 mm or 25 mm high chevrons
moulded and directly integrated in the cover of the conveyor
belt. These profiles are produced in a very high quality
(grade D) anti-abrasive cover.

AREAS OF APPLICATION

Mines
Cement works
Cattle feed
Cereal silos
Port installations
Chemical fertilizers
Sugar factories
Quarries and sand pits

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
TRANSPROFIL belts have 15 mm or 25 mm high chevrons
moulded and directly integrated in the cover of the conveyor
belt. These profiles are produced in a very high quality antiabrasive cover.
Depending on the width of the belt and the type of material
conveyed, we will advise you on the most appropriate
chevron height (15 mm high chevrons or 25 mm high
chevrons).
In very many cases, the angle of inclination of the belt must
not exceed 20. TRANSPROFIL belts provide an answer to
this drawback. If the angle of inclination has to exceed 20,
TRANSPROFIL belts will allow you to convey your materials
at a greater incline (max. 30 or 40 depending on the case)
while at the same time allowing you to save space in your
installations.

SPECIALISED APPLICATIONS

The TRANSPROFIL is a chevron belt specially designed to

meet the specific requirements of an increase in the angle of
inclination of the conveyor.
It will be used in cases in which a conventional conveyor belt
is incapable of retaining the materials conveyed.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This brochure has been prepared carefully, to advise our
customers. The information stated therein is state of the art and the results of different tests

SPECIALISED APPLICATIONS

TRANSLEV
ELEVATOR BELT
The LPM and LPMWH ranges represent a unique technical
solution in the top range elevator belt field. Consisting of a
layer of longitudinal cords inserted between two layers of
transverse cords, these belts provide working safety in large
elevators which is unrivalled in the market.

The technological lead of our metal carcass belt compared

to the belts available on the market lies in the fact that it
consists of special cords enabling:
better bucket attachment owing to a layer of high-density
reduced-diameter longitudinal cords inserted between two
layers of transverse cords.
a value for cord adhesion in the coating which is far
superior in cumulative value to the values which can be
obtained using cords of higher unit diameter. This is essential
for hot product belts in which the cord adhesion drops
considerably with the raising of the temperature.
minimal diameters for winding of the belt on the pulleys
owing to the small diameters of the longitudinal cords.
excellent rubber penetration and high cable adhesion
values owing to the open type cord design. This
performance is further enhanced by expertise in chemical
adhesion between cords and rubber and by vulcanisation at
40 bar.

Because of their metal carcass, the TRANSLEV LPM and

LPMWH ranges allow:
high working tensions
low tension travels
high bucket attachment values (triple layer of two-way
cords)
high heat resistance (LPMWH)

TRANSLEV LPM/LPMWH

SPECIALISED APPLICATIONS

The LPM range (SBR cover grade) is suitable for material

temperatures of up to 60C.
The LPMWH range is designed for handled material
temperatures of up to 130C.
The LPWH range is a two-ply belt with a textile carcass
(polyester warp, polyamide weft) inserted between two
transverse reinforcements and cover. This belt (butyl cover
grade) is designed for handled material temperatures of up
to 130C. It also presents remarkable bucket attachment
values owing to its multi-layer structure and these transverse
reinforcements.

AUTOSTABLE

SPECIALISED APPLICATIONS

INSTANTANEOUS SELF-CENTRING
The patented construction principle of the AUTOSTABLE belt
ensures instantaneous self-centring. This self-centring effect
without the use of accessories or modifications of the installation
offers numerous advantages:
Stability of the belt along its whole length, thus no risk of offcentring and therefore no deterioration of the moulded edges.
Elimination of systematic pinching, hence less wear and lower
friction (reduction of power consumed).
Increase in output owing to stabilisation of the vein and the
slope of the product and the possibility of increasing the trough
angle.

AUTOSTABLE

INSTANTANEOUS SELF-CENTRING
One of the main problems encountered in the use of conveyor belts is off-centring.
This phenomenon resulting from various causes leads to clogging of installations, reductions in output, deterioration of the
moulded edges and a noticeable shortening of the service life of the belt itself.

The patented construction principle of the AUTOSTABLE

METAL belt is based on the qualities of METALCORD belts.
In particular, this belt offers the qualities and performance
associated with the use of cords of various elasticities. Its
originality lies in the incorporation of a double metal
stiffening layer. One narrower layer is centred on the centre
line of the belt, creating a beam effect in the central part.
The difference in flexibility between this central area and the
side areas, which are more flexible in comparison, favours
the self-centring of the belt. As the rigid central part cannot
adapt to the angle formed by the idler rollers, the belt tends
to return to its natural trough, thus favouring its stability along
its whole length.

the centre roller)

The AUTOSTABLE belt centres itself of its own accord on the
conveyor.

Increased service life

Reduction of the risks of off-centring and therefore of
deterioration of the moulded edges. Elimination of pinching
and therefore less wear and lower friction.

PIPETRANS/PIPECORD
SOLUTIONS FOR TUBULAR CONVEYORS
Based on an original idea combining know-how and
technical innovation, this handling system makes it possible
not only to preserve the environment but also to protect the
product conveyed.

The PIPETRANS / PIPECORD range is renowned for

providing an ideal solution for this type of handling.
The PIPETRANS range consists of a specially-designed twoply or multiply structure of woven fabrics (polyester
warp/polyamide weft) with cutting of plies in the
longitudinal direction to enable overlaping of the edges of
the tube.
The PIPECORD range has a carcass consisting of:
in warp: special high-elasticity cords alternately stranded
right and left to counterbalance the twist of the tube
in wefts: special high-elasticity cords of a width designed
to provide the appropriate transverse rigidity and enable the
overlaping of the edges. It should be noted that the design
of the weft is important as it must ensure the maintaining of
the tubular shape of the belt in all cases of stress applied to
it, particularly on curves, and must prevent the crushing of the
belt.

The tubular conveyor can be used to convey all types of

products in bulk, from the finest to the coarsest, with a tube
diameter two and a half times greater than the maximum
grain size.

SPECIALISED APPLICATIONS

The types of materials which can be conveyed by the tubular

conveyor are extremely varied and currently include various
sorts of materials of a powdery nature (cements, ash, fly ash,
etc.) or otherwise (coal, coke, ore, limestone, gypsum,
sludge, fertiliser, sugar, wood chips, etc.).

SQUAREBELT
SQUARE SECTION TUBULAR CONVEYOR
The know-how and technical innovation of SEMPERTRANS
has resulted in the development of a new handling system:
the SQUAREBELT.
Combining the technical characteristics of the AUTOSTABLE
belt for its construction and of the PIPE CONVEYOR for its
use, the SQUAREBELT provides an optimum solution to
problems of handling bulk products without pollution of the
outside environment while at the same time protecting the
product conveyed, and offers a unique advantage
compared to a conventional pipe conveyor by preventing
twisting of the belt, particularly in curved conveyors.

ADVANTAGES OF THE SQUAREBELT

Environmental protection: the material is totally isolated
from the outside environment
Perfect belt alignment: avoids any risk of twisting of the belt
Vertical and horizontal curves: the use of elastic cords
allows radii of curvature in vertical and horizontal planes
Roller spacing: because of its inertia, the square cross
section allows considerable spacing of the stations

The materials can be conveyed on both strands of the belt.

SPECIALISED APPLICATIONS

At the loading and tipping points, the SQUARE

CONVEYOR is opened and closed in the form of a
standard trough to pass flat over the pulleys like a
conventional conveyor belt.

SPECIALISED APPLICATIONS

TRANSGLIS
BELT WITH SLIDING FACE
Areas of application

THE TRANSGLIS belt has been specially designed to meet

the requirements encountered in the recycling and waste
industry. It carries out generally flat, horizontal or inclined
conveying of bulk materials of low grain size, on rollers or
wooden, metal or PVC sliding beds. Depending on the type
of use and the material conveyed, SEMPERTRANS has
chosen two cover grades: a superior quality anti-abrasive
cover (D) and a cover resistant to grease and vegetable oils
(GM). Multiply structure consisting of 3 plies of woven
fabrics (polyester warp / polyamide weft) including one
sliding one.

TRANSRIGID
STUDIED RIGIDITY
AREAS OF APPLICATION

The TRANSRIGID range is composed of belts with high

transverse rigidity for flat use.
They mainly serve as a support for corrugated flanged edges
and ribs, to produce conveyors with steep gradients and
specific geometries.

Port installations
Quarries
Silos
Mines
etc.

XST2 belts are fitted in installations presenting harsh working

conditions with numerous changes of gradient.
XMM belts enable the quality of the metal warp to be
combined with particularly rigid wefts. These belts are
intended for installations in which the working conditions are
harshest and are suitable for silo covering applications.
TRANSRIGID belts can be equipped with all standard types
of edges and ribs on the market. SEMPERTRANS can
supply you with equipped belts on request.
XST2: two or three woven plies (polyester warp /
polyamide weft) between two layers of rubber core
impregnated metal cords of specially designed rigidities.
XMM: assembly consisting of three layers of rubber core
impregnated metal cords.
- Warp direction: one layer of cords of appropriate elasticity
- Warp direction: two layers of cords of specially designed
rigidity located on either side of the warp.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

MATERIALS

MINIMUM DIAMETER OF PULLEYS

The minimum diameters of the pulleys of belt conveyors are determined by taking into account: the construction
of the belt, its weight and the type of splicing.
Three types of pulleys are distinguished:
Tension pulleys and other pulleys located in the area of highest tension of the belt
Tail pulleys and other pulleys located in the area of lowest tension of the belt
Snub or bend pulleys which do not change the direction of the belt by more than 30.
The minimum diameter of a pulley also varies according to the tension in the belt.
For high types, do not forget that the weaker the surface pressure on the pulley, the better the (belt/pulley)
adhesion coefficient will be
Pulley diameters greater than the recommended minimum diameters will increase the service life of the belt.
For large cover thicknesses, it is recommended to increase the diameters of the pulleys.
For belts not indicated in this table, please consult our technical departments.

TENSION TRAVEL NECESSARY FOR BELTS

The adjustment of the tension travel depends on:
load

belt breaking load

The centre distance of the conveyor and its working

tension
The conveyor starting and stopping system.
The position of the tension system
The nature of the carcass of the belt
The elongation of a belt is broken down into two parts: the
permanent elongation and the elastic elongation.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

In certain cases it is possible to reduce the tension travel by

complying with certain procedures
Either during manufacturing
Or during placing of the belt in endless configuration on
the operating site.
Consult our technical departments.

Permanent
Elastic
elongation
elongation
Total elongation

For textile belts, the permanent elongation and the elastic elongation are divided into two roughly equal parts for weak types;
the permanent elongation increases with the type of belt because of the greater crimping of the constituent fabrics.
For metal belts the elongation consists of approximately 1/5th permanent elongation and 4/5ths elastic elongation.
Tension travel to be provided for according to the belt family (see table on following page).
On conveyors with small centre distances, it is necessary to allow a minimum tension travel in order to be able to place the
belt in endless configuration.

CENTRE OF BELT

RADIUS OF CURVATURE
RADIUS WITH CENTRE ABOVE (CONCAVE)

RADIUS WITH CENTRE BELOW (CONVEX)

The approximate values which can be used to determine the radius of curvature are indicated below.
Note 1: For convex radius (centre below), it is recommended to reduce the trough angle by 5 to 10 and eliminate any
pinching of the rollers in this area.
Note 2: For concave radius (centre above), it is generally the empty belt non-lifting conditions which determine the minimum
radius values.
