2.1 % of the total population is disabled. And the numbers of physically

disability (orthopedically) is the 2nd largest disability after blindness.
According to the national census of india 2001.
Disability affects hundreds of millions of families in developing countries. Currently around 10
per cent of the total world's population, or roughly 650 million people, live with a disability. In
most of the OECD countries, females have higher rates of disability than males.
Having a disability places you in the world's largest minority group.
As the population ages this figure is expected to increase. Eighty per cent of persons with
disabilities live in developing countries, according to the UN Development Program (UNDP).
The World Bank estimates that 20 per cent of the world's poorest people have some kind of
disability, and tend to be regarded in their own communities as the most disadvantaged.
Statistics show a steady increase in these numbers.

Disability is a matter of perception. If you can do just one thing well,

youre needed by someone.
Discrimination occurs at many levels, and just like a persons caste, creed and
gender is not under their control, most of the times their bodily disabilities arent
either. Such people constitute about 3 percent of our total population, and
however small the number may sound, in a population this big, its definitely a
significant value.
Equal opportunity for all is an easier-said-than-done concept in India. The
number of employers willing to hire a physically handicapped candidate is not
very high. Prejudice always gets in the way of such citizens.
There is a reservation quota in almost all government institutions that guarantees
a fair share of seats to them. But still there are so many obstacles in the way.
I am from a Town Dharamshala which is situated in Distt. Kangra Himachal
Pradesh. Dharamshala is well known for its international cricket stadium and a
popular hill station. It is also the home of His holiness Dalai Lama. It is also the
winter capital of Himachal Pradesh. Even after all these things, I am so surprised
to see that there are next to nil facilities for the disabled persons, Most of the
govt. offices doesnt have the ramp and lift facilities in the town. Proper Parking is
not available. markets are not developed properly its leads to more hardship for a
challenged person to even buy the daily utilities products.
This is the hilly area and its so risky to drive the normal wheelchairs because the
roads are not straight and lots of carves and steep and Manual wheelchair need
a attendant most the time.
There is a need of electric wheelchairs with advance design for sustainability on
the road. This kind of wheelchairs are commonly available in the foreign
countries. Like uk and usa. But in india there is no availability of these kind of
wheelchairs. Even there is no manufacture who built such kind of chair according
to needs. I request your goodself to kindly take this matter in your made in india
campaign.
Sir at present there is only one way for the customers to avail these chairs is to
import them. But due to complex import laws and not proper awareness this is a
tough deal to tackle.
Sir I am willing to sale these chairs in india after import them for the needed
persons. I need your support to serve this neglected gentry.
