In addition to the two units on this brief, you will also cover the A1 & A2

Research is necessary, proof of which will be in your diary. Rehearsals and performances will be observed as
evidence. Notebooks and correct clothing will be required. Diaries will form essential evidence, and this includes
blogged diary entries, comments and evaluations.

develop both your ability and understanding of the techniques involved in acting and why they are important. You will
cover improvisation and physical theatre. You will also look at voice through warm-ups, the development of projection
and diction. Through this you will explore vocalisation and textual character creation before moving on to perform the
final piece. You will develop the skills required to create characters and perform a devised piece of theatre. You will take
part in actors vocal and physical warm-ups whilst also taking responsibility for leading these independently.
You will draw upon the skills gained and use them in devising, rehearsing and ultimately the performance of, Shelf Life.
You will read, research and explore the subject matter and take part in workshops to help you develop and explore
different physicalitys, voices and characteristics. You will then start devising and will continue to take part in rehearsals
to work towards the final performance.
The Performance will run for 3 nights in the Studio Theatre in January 2014.
You will finally write an evaluation of the final performance where you will analyse and explore the strengths and
weaknesses of both yourself and the company in Shelf Life then you will submit your Tumblr logbook.
Individual contribution to the rehearsal and devising process is essential, but we must also work together and establish a
solid theatre company.
Please refer to the attached sheets for information on the units you will be covering. All the criteria contained in these
units join together to underpin your training and development as an actor. If there is any confusion over any of the afore
mentioned, please do not hesitate to ask.
Attend all rehearsals demonstrating a purposeful sense of focus on the work. Develop a character with vocal and
physical accuracy making personal artistic decisions. You should communicate intentions to the audience at all

Participate effectively in daily physical warm-ups and develop physical characteristics for your character. (Unit B4
GC 3, GC4, Unit B6 GC 4)
Use the vocal skills you have developed through your vocal workshops to enable you to present your character
during read-throughs, rehearsals and the final show, with a high degree of technical command. (Unit B4 GC2,
Unit B6 GC 4)
Create a vocal exercise routine that includes a variety of relevant exercises based on workshops you have taken
part in. This should help you to develop control of your voice and should explore different vocal qualities such as
pitch, tone, speed, volume and accents. Participate in your companys vocal exercise workshops led by the
directors and your peers, and be prepared to lead the vocal exercise routine that you have created. (Unit B4 GC

Research your character in order to explore, create and develop it. Gather and collate information in the form of
character questions, images, written research notes and so on. For your research you should use a variety of
sources such as books, mood boards, character questions, improvisations, personal props, drawings and designs.

Ensure that you use your imagination during the process and record decisions you make about matters of
interpretation. Be prepared for hot seating. This will be used, alongside other techniques, to help you to develop
your character. Be prepared to present and discuss your research with your company. (Unit B6, GC 1, GC2)
Perform a role in Shelf Life with focus, commitment and imagination (Unit B4 GC7, Unit B6 GC 5)
. Write an evaluation with reference to the planning of Shelf Life and reviewing the overall process as a whole.
Describe your personal effectiveness, including strengths and weaknesses and suggest opportunities for
