Section 5
1.

Unitary Airhandling Units

(Double Skin)

General :
The airhandling unit shall be complete in all respects and shall generally comply with the
specifications as given in the following paragraphs.

2.

Unit :

2.1

The units shall be ceiling mounted type. The housing of the unit shall be double skin
construction draw through type and shall include pre filter, fan section, coil section,
section, etc. The frame work shall be of extruded aluminium hallow section. All the frame
shall be assembled using pressure die cast aluminium joints to make a sturdy, strong and
self supporting frame work for various section.
25 mm thick double skin panels shall be made of 0.6 mm preplastified GSS sheet on out
side and 0.6 mm galvanised sheet inside with P.U. insulation in between. These panels
shall be screwed on to the framework with soft rubber gasket on aluminium frame to
make the joints air tight. Insulation material shall be of 38 Kg./cu.mt. density minimum.
Detachable drain pan shall be constructed of 18 gauge Aluminium sheet with necessary
slope to facilitate fast removal of condensate. Necessary outlet from the drain pan
shall be provided. The unit shall be suitablly insulated from inside to avoid condensation
on outer surface.

2.2

The fan shall be forward curved, double inlet double width type. The wheel & housing
shall be abricated from heavy gauge galvanised steel. The fan impeller shall be mounted
on a solid shaft supported to housing with angle iron frame & pillow blcok heavy duty
ball. The fan shall be selected for a speed not exceeding 1000 rpm. The impeller & fan
shaft shall be statically and dynamically balanced. The fan outlet valocity shall not be more
than 1800 rpm. Fan housing with motor shall be mounted on a common steel base
mounted in side the air handling housing on antivibration springs mounts or cushy foot
mount The fan outlet shall be connected to casing with the help of fire retardent canvass.
The fan shall be direct driven type. Another fire retardent canvass connection shall be
provided at unit outlet to connect the ducts.

2.3

The cooling coil shall be of seamless copper tubes, not less than 0.437 mm thick and 12.5
mm O.D.the coil shall have continuous aluminium fins. The fins shall be spaced by
collars forming integral part of the fins. The tubes shall be staggered in the direction of
air flow. The fins shall be uniformly bonded to the tubes by mechanical expansion of the
tubes. The coils shall be tested against leaks at a hydraulic pressure of 21 kg/sq.cm. This
pressure shall be maintained for a period of 2 hours. No drop be observed indicating
S-20
any leaks. The water headers shall be of type copper pipes, to connect all the tubes. The

headers shall be complete with water in/out connections, vent plug on top and drain at
the bottom, and designed to provide water velocity between 0.6 to 1.8 m/s (2 to 6 FPS).
2.4

Unit shall have 12 mm thick synthetic mesh filter with anodised extruded aluminium frame.

2.5

Electric Panel

2.5.1 Each unit shall have its own electric panel consisting MCB/fuse switch unit, starter,
indication lamps incoming out going internal and external wiring including earthing.
2.6

Controls
Each unit shall be provided with the controls as per specification.

2.7

Fresh air Controls

An adjustable damper of G.I. Sheet along with birdscreen, air inlet louvers and air
filters shall be provided for fresh air entry. The damper shall be sized for 50% of design
air quantity.

3.

Testing :
The fan coil unit shall be tested to measure air quantity and coil performance by
measuring temperature difference, water pressure drop across coil and then calculating the
capacity.

4.

Limitations :

4.1

The air velocity across the cooing coil shall not exceed 500 f.p.m. (2.5 m/sec.).

4.2

The fan outlet velocity shall not exceed 1800 fps. (9 m/sec).

4.3

The air velocity across the filters shall not exceed 500 fpm. (2.5 m/sec.)
