Description/Abstract A working group of the Watt Committee on Energy prepared this review of the currently available facts and arguments concerning
the civil use of nuclear power, pursuing the subject from uranium mining through the technology of power stations and questions
of the environment and of safety and risk to the disposal of nuclear waste. Members of the working group delivered papers on the
main aspects at the Watt Committee Consultative Council meeting on 2nd December 1982, and a report of discussion at that
meeting is included in this volume. The information is presented under the following topics: supply, demand and economics;
technical means; availability of resources; environment; balance of risk and advantage in the peaceful use of nuclear energy; the
nuclear debate; and background information.
