INTRODUCTION

This document describes the Virtual machine setting procedure for PNMSj.

NOTE
Refer to "PNMSj System Requirement Manual" for the
recommendation size of heap memory.

3.1

Server Machine Configuration

BIOS Setting

On BIOS setting window, check whether Virtualization Technology option is enabled.

(1) Power on the server, then press the F2 button while BIOS starting up.
NOTE
BIOS setting start-up key may differ according to the
environment.

(2) On BIOS setting window, Enable the Virtualization Technology option.

3.2

ESXi Installation
(1) Download the software from the following URL. Account Registration is required before
downloading.
http://www.vmware.com/
Software name: VMware ESXi 5.1
Write to DVD device after downloading.
(2)

Insert the VMware ESXi5.1 DVD ROM to the server machine.

(3)

On the [ Welcom to the VMware ESXi Installation ] window.

Press the Enter key to continue.

(4)

On [End User License agreement] window.

Press the F11 key(Accept and Continue).

(5)

On [Select a Disc to Install or Upgrade] window.

Select the folder to be installed and press the Enter to continue.

(6)

On [Please select a keyboard layout] window.

Select the US default and press the Enter to continue.

(7)

On [Please enter a root password] window.

Input your Root password and Retype it to confirm.
Press the Enter key to Continue.

(8)

On [Confirm install] window.

Press the F11 key(Install).

(9)

Eject the DVD media then press Enter to Reboot.

After [Installation Complete] window is appeared.
Eject the DVD media then press Enter to Reboot .

(10) Press the F2 key after rebooting.

(11) Input the password that you have created in step 7 then press Enter.
(12) Select the Configure Management Network then press the Enter.
(13) Select the Network Adapters then press the Enter.
(14) Specify one of the NIC to be used by pressing Space key, then press Enter to continue.
NOTE
A DIFFERENT NIC ASSIGNED FOR NMS MUST BE
SELECTED. IN ADDITION TO THIS, ONE PNMSJ
SYSYEM REQUIRES ONE SEPARATE NIC.

(15) Select IP Configuration then press Enter.

(16) Select Set static IP address and network configuration, press the Space key(Mark
Selects), then input the IP address/Subnet Mask/Default gateway accordingly.
(17) Press the Esc key to open Configure Management Network: Confirm window after
confirming that there are no mistakes in the setting value. Press Y to save the setting.

4. Client Setting
vSphere Client installation is required to manage Virtual machine.
4.1

vSphere Client installation

(1)

Download the software from the following URL. Account Registration is required before
downloading.
http://www.vmware.com/
The software name: VMware vSphere Client 5.1
Write to the device after downloading.

(2)

Insert the device and double click .exe file.

(3)

Select the Language and click [OK].

(4)

Click [Next >].

Select I agree to the terms in the license agreement, then click [Next >].

Select the installation folder then click [Next >].

Click [Install].
Click [Finish] to complete installation.

4.2

ESXi Setting

Perform initial setting by connecting VMware vSphere Client and ESXi Server.
(1) Start the VMware vSphere Client.
(2) Login in by typing IP address / User name / Password used in the chapter 3.2 ESX installation.

Due to guaranteed SSL certification is required in some case, security warning message may
appear required.

4.2.1 Create Storage

When there is no Datastore, please create it by following procedure.
(1)

Slect Home Inventory Inventory.

Select Storage in Configuration Tab, then Click Add Storage.

Select Disk/LUN then [Next >].

Specify the location for Data store then click [Next >].
Select VMFS-5, then [Next >].
Confirm disk layout, then [Next >].
Input the name for Datastore, then [Next >].
Specify the capacities/sizes according the System Requirement Manual, then click [Next >].

4.2.2 Time Configuration

(1)

Select Home Inventory Inventory.

Select Time Configuration in Configuration Tab, then click on Properties.

(2)

Set the date and time for the host in the vSphere Clinets local time.
Click [OK].

4.2.3 Create Virtual Machine

(1)

Select Home Inventory Inventory.

Select Networking in Configuration Tab. Click on Add Network.

(2)

Select Virtual Machine, then click [Next >].

Select NIC, then click [Next >].

Input the name for Network Label, then [Next >].

Click [Finish].

Right click on ESXi server IP Address then select New Virtual Machine.

Select Custom then click [Next >].

Input the Virtual Machine name, then click [Next >].

Select a storage, then click [Next >].

(10) Select Virtual Machine Version: 8, then click [Next >].

Guest Operating System: Windows
Version: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)

(12) Set as following, then click [Next >].

Number of virtual sockets: 1
Number of cores per Virtual sockets: The number into which the choice number of
possible cores was divided by the number of virtual machines.

(13) Specify the memory size by following System Requirement Manual, then click [ Next > ].

(14) Set as following then [Next >].

NIC: 1
Network: Select the Network Label that you have created in step (4)
Adapter: VMXNET3
Connect at Power On: ON

(15) Select LSI Logic SAS then click [Next >].

(16) Select Create a new virtual disk then click [Next >].

(17) Set as following then click [Next >].

Capacity: Follow the Sysmte Requirement Manaul
Disc Provisioning: Thick Provision Eager Zeroed
Location: Store with virtual machine

(18) Leave as Default, click [Next >].

4.3

OS installation(Virtual Machine)

OS(Windows Server 2008 R2) installation from vSphere Client

(1)

Select the Virtual machine that configured in section 4.2 ESXi setting above, right click on
Virtual Machine select Edit Setting.

(2)

Select CD/DVD drive 1 in Hardware Tab, Set as following and click [OK].
Device Type: Host Device
Device Status: Connect at power on

Insert the OS media to the server.

Select the Virtual machine that configured in section 4.2 ESXi Setting.
Right click on Virtual Machine then select Open Console.

Click the Power on button OS installation will be started.

4.4

VMware Tools installation on Virtual machine

(1)

From the console of Virtual machine, select Virutual Machine Guest Install/Upgrade
VMware Tools.

(2)

Execute setup64.exe.

5. Install PNMSj application

Install the PNMSj application following the procedures mentioned in the PNMSj Installation Manual.

6. Configure PNMSj Server setting

Follow the procedures mentioned in the Server and Daemon setting manual.
