Fault Plane
A 3D Ray Model in OMNI 3D can have several normal faults. Each fault is a flat plane that stretches
form one edge of the horizon to the other.
Right-click on Faults in the Project Tree, select Create New Fault. Expand the Faults folder by clicking
the plus sign (+) next to it to show the new fault name. Right-click on Fault, and select Fault Style.
Enter values for the Definition or use the Edit View to automatically define the fault location.

How to Define the Fault Location in the Edit View
With the mouse, drag the Fault Definition dialog to the top left corner of the OMNI 3D window.
Open the Edit View.
Right-click on the model in the Edit View at the approximate center of the fault plane. Select
Copy Coordinates. Right-click in the Easting (X) text box in the dialog. Select Paste
Coordinate. Right-click in the Northing (Y) text box in the dialog. Select Paste Coordinate.
Enter the Fault Azimuth (90), Inclination (15), and center coordinates Elevation (-750)
in the dialog.
Open the Fault Display tab. Change the Reference Origin to the Origin of the Survey System. Change
the Vertical Throw to 100.
Press OK
Make both Horizons affected by the fault. Make the fault partially transparent - try approximately 31%.

Volume View
3D Ray Models can also be diplayed in the 3D Volume View. Open the Volume View. Since both
horizons have the default velocity, they are the same Vp INT Scale color. Change the Dome P-velocity
to 5500.
Ray Tracing
There are several interactive ways of raytracing through the 3D Ray Model. All are accessed through the
same menu. Right-click on the model name, select Rays. Select an option for ray tracing and follow the
directions in the wizard that opens. Flip between the Edit View and 3D View to create the ray traces and
to view them.

Analyses
There are also several analyses that can be calculated on a 3D Ray Model. These are are all quick
calculations that give a first look at the model. Right-click on Analyses in the Project Tree, select
Create New Analysis. Select the analysis to be done. Fill in the parameters requested in the dialogs.
Survey analyses can also be calclulated from a survey using the 3D Ray Model. The two analyses are
Illumination Ray-traced fold over a complex model and Synthetic SEGY over a complex model.
Create a survey over the same area as the 3D Ray Model, and calculate a script. Right-click on the name
of the script and select Create New Analysis. Select the Workshop Analysis to be calculated and enter
parameters in the dialogs.
