My first accident

In September 2009, I got my first new motorbike from my parents. They gave
me motorbike because I could enroll in one of the favorite high junior in my town.
When in senior high school, they said if I could enroll senior high school 1
Purbalingga, they would give anything that you wanted. For this reason I always
studied hard until the time for selection to enroll high junior came. Finally I was
received in senior high 1 Purbalingga because I could pass the selection test.
After two weeks, I got an accident with my new motorbike. When I was riding
my motorbike until finding crossroads, suddenly someone hit my motorbike in high
speed. I felt very worried at that moment because I saw the man hitting me lying on
the road with a lot of blood in his bodies. Moreover, I did not have driving license
because I was still fifteen years old, and it was my first new motorbike.
First, I was very worried because I thought the man was died. When it
happened so many people came to look at me and the men, they realized that the
man was seriously injured. After that, people took the man to the hospital. A study
has also revealed that most of the people who were killed in road accidents in
Indonesia were riders of two or three-wheel vehicles, which is about 61%. Next were
pedestrians (15%), cyclists (13%), passengers of 4-wheel vehicles (4%) and drivers
of 4-wheel vehicles (3%), as recorded by National Police in 2009. Some other
dramatic reports from the Jakarta Police Department that the Traffic Directorate
showed between January to July 2009, traffic accidents in the city claimed 692 lives
and left 1,499 people badly injured. Current data of accidents in Jakarta show that
there were about 280 traffic accidents claiming 35 lives and injuring 245 people,

meaning that more than 10% of the accidents result in a death. (Police Department
Head Quarter Republic of Indonesia,2009)
Second, I was very worried if the police knew the accident, because I did not
have a driving license. Driving license was a legal document required in Indonesia
before they were allowed to drive a motor vehicle. The Indonesian driving license
was issued by the Indonesian National Police (Polri). The general requirements for a
license in Indonesia were to be at least 17 years old. I was still fifteen years old, so I
could not get a driving license and I should wait two years more to ride motorbike
legally. In Indonesia according to 59 paragraph (1) of Law no. 14 1992, if driving a
motor vehicle failing to show the legal Driving License to officials were sentenced
confinement for 2 months or fine maximal Rp. 2.000.000. But if someone did not
have a Driving License or their age was under seventeen, according to 59
paragraph (1) of Law no. 14 1992, driving a motor vehicle not owning legal driving
license were sentenced confinement for 6 months or fine maximal Rp. 6.000.000.

The last, I was very worried if my parent were angry with me. It was only two
weeks, they gave me this motorbike. My new motorbike was seriously broken
because of this accident. Moreover, my parents could not claim the insurance
because this accident happened with children not having a Driving License or the
insurance company assumed me broke the law by driving without Driving License.
Finally, my parents helped me to solve this problem. They thought this
accident was not fully my fault because that man rode his motorbike in high speed.
My worry about the police because I did not have Driving License could be solved by
my parents with making deal with that man. We agreed that we would not report
this accident to police and did not sue each other. My worry that my parents would
be angry with me because I broke my new motorbike did not be true. My parents
paid all the repair cost of my motor bike but they forbade me to ride motorbike for a
moment. The effect of this accident, I had to make a full recover from the accident
so I could not go to school for a week. My injury was not too serious because I
jumped from my motor bike so I could avoid the crash.
