Great Start For January
Love For February
Peace for March
No Worries for April

Dear Class of 1964,

Hopefully you were able to see the Reunion video. love yah
Buffalo Bob Casale

Bob,
Thanks for the effort, but I
have no Google account and
therefore ore am unable to
access Google Drive where the
video is stored. Would it be possible
to email me the1964 Fifty Year Reunion backup.wmv file directly? I
don't know its size, but my email account allows transfer of files
smaller than 25 MB.
Bob Slater
Bob
Send me your snail mail address and I will burn a copy to a DVD and
send along to you. Thanks
buffalo bob casale
Hello Buffalo Bob,
Decent of you to offer to send me DVD. Thanks. I was trying to avoid
giving Google any personal information. On my machine I save no
information about my interests, no history. Cookies are deleted
automatically when I close the browser. Browser does not track my
site visits, either. I try to stay as anonymous as possible, and I don't
need anyone tailoring my web experience to my interests. I'm pretty

much sick of this kind of invasion of my privacy. All they really want
is to sell me more crap I don't want or need. But anyhow I'm done
with my rant. LOL
An alternative to snail mail would be any modern instant message
program. Those I have seen allow file transfers of any size. I once
sent a complete movie of 6GB size to a girl in China. It took a day
and a half, but still cheaper and faster than snail mail. My home
address is: (concealed) Thanks, Buddy. And I wish you the best of
this holiday season. Bob
I just finished burning a copy and will put it into the mail tomorrow. The
Google account is what I used to send the video originally and I use that
whenever I have large videos and documents. You should have the
video in a couple of days. Enjoy
Bob
Thanks, Bob.
I figure that for you to go to this effort for a total stranger you must
be a decent soul. I wish you well and thank you for the video.
Best,
Bob Slater
Got it. Thanks. Some really good shots. Nice work. A lot of effort
went into this. Much appreciated.
Best
Bob Slater

A note to Leslie Worley

...(After viewing the photo posted on line) Can you tell me who
Carol on the far right is? Also, Suzanne Ridenour, 2nd from the
right... I cannot find her in any yearbook! Is Ridenour her maiden
or married name??? And finally, need to know if Barbara Winkel,
in the front in black, is a Winkel or is she married to a Winkel and
what's her maiden name???
Thanks
love yah Bob
Hi Bob,
Her name is Carol Lulves, class of 63.
Ridenhour is Sue's married (divorced) name.
Her maiden name is Gianelli. You might
know her brother Eddie. Barbara Winkel is
her married name. She is married to Fred
(class of 62). Her maiden name is Barbara
Ivey (class of 63). Hope you are well.
Heading back to FL tomorrow where it is 80
degrees and sunny. Here in RI it is 40 and
dreary. Bestwishesfor a Healthy, Happy New
Year.
Leslie
Thanks for the update. Have a safe trip. We
usually have decent weather here in Augusta
but it has been equally dreary lately. Lots of
rain and a damp, chill every day. But, it's only
several months until we are back in the warmer
weather.

Bob,
Thanks for the response to my letter. By the way
my old boyfriend that worked at Whelans was a
Hix alumni too His name is Richard Judge, class of
68. He worked for Whelans for quite a long time.
My cousin, Dave, was so pleased you were asking
for him. Just this past year he moved to Las Vegas
He Is happy and doing well.
Daves sister Banni went out with Otto years back.
Also I knew Otto thru the Judge family because he
was good friends with Tommy Judge. Please tell
Otto I send my best. He should remember me!
Dave also remembered that guy Tom too. He
loved hearing the old names.
If he had a computer he would love the newsletter. Didn't get back to you sooner because I had
knee replacement surgery and was in a rehab
getting well. I am home now getting physical
therapy. This getting old is not easy! Thanks again
for all the hard work you do for us Alumnis!
Love ya
Barbara,
You mentioned my brother in law, Otto. Otto passed
away back in October. He and his wife, Katy, were
living in Colorado. Hope you are well and enjoy the
holidays.

Hi Bob,
Here's an interesting
thought How many
HHS grads went on to
serve as Communication
Technicians (CT's) in the
Navy - As of now I count
you and me.
Bob Bittner '68
Editors note Very
interesting question. In
addition to the Naval
Security Group (NSG) that both Bob and I were part
of, there were the Army and Air Force groups that
were similarly tasked with security.
How many of our high school vets were involved in
security?

Dear All,
Here are some photos from the News Conference on
PTSD and Suicide. Both Suffolk County Legislators and
Our Congressman were there. Shown below is Suffolk
County Executive Steve Bellone

I am pleased to tell you that efforts are being made to

go to our Soldiers and Vets as soon as they are
discharged and come home to offer them the many
facilities that are in place to help them anonymously.
It took two years to get to this point and we still have a
long way to go, but I am so pleased by the progress so
far.
Part of the Conference and an interview I didwere on
Channel 12 News, yesterday from 5 PM through the
night. It might be on the
Channel 12 News Feed on the
Internet as well. It was a very
difficult subject to discuss, but
one which so desperately needs
our attention as a Nation.
Have a very Merry Holiday
Season and a Healthy New Year.

YesI remember that
medal and I still have it.
But I remember it as the

remember thinking that
this is a great race. Too
bad it wasn't a part of
regular track meets.

We didn't run the 440 after
8th grade to the best of my
knowledge. I would almost swear it was the 880
relay...but then, it was 56 years ago. LOL There's no way to
check. Did I ever send you the link to the USS Liberty

$3400 in Donations Raised So Far!

A note from Joe Carfora:

Tax exempt status for the Memorial Project was received in mid-October and our first appeal to
the subscribers of HixNews for contributions was made in the November 1, 2014 issue. Since that
time, we have received just under $3,400 in donations from just 18 contributors, far short of our
overall goal of $25,000. 3 generous contributors alone have accounted for donations just under
$2,300 or 70% of the total collected thus far.
NO DONATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED SINCE JUST BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS
AND THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF JANUARY.
Please remember that your contributions to this worthy cause are tax deductible. We hope that with the Holidays behind
us, donations will once again pick up and will be made by a much broader cross section of HixNews readers, plus past and
present Hicksville residents in general.
The Memorial Team will very much appreciate
your generosity. Please make your checks out
to: Hicksville Vietnam Era Memorial Project
Checks should be mailed to:

Since the end of November, 3 new names were
added to the Confirmed List of Names, which
now stands at 1,893. Some progress was also
made on filling in missing data for the
Confirmed List, but no progress has been
made on the Unconfirmed List of names. We
continue to need the help of all our readers
here!!

if you have a new name or some missing data on existing names to email to us. Class years, where known, are specifically
shown and missing data is marked in red, to make it easy for readers to see whats needed.

Hi Brother dear
Reading this list was very
sad. Virginia Howell was
my friend who got me the
job making jelly apples.

Joel Lasky was a part of

our group as you may
remember. He was also the
best dancer. He made his
partners look good. We all
wanted to dance with him.
A lot of lovely memories. Thanks for reminding me.
Love,

p.s. Another memory if you
don't mind. Mike Donovan
was the nicest guy. He
always had time to talk.
I had the biggest crush on
him. Saw him after
graduation at Bob's Esso
gas station at the West
Village Green. He was
working on his car with his
shirt off. Let me tell you that was a memorable
moment. My class was filled with nice people.
Love to you. E

I would recommend that you send this to

has been instrumental in the various reunions and
get-togethers over the years. If you don't have his
contact info let me know and I will track it down for
you.

is on my list.
Editor note Sharon Ward was in the class of 1962
Good morning Buff
Sharon Ward is in the 1960 yearbook on bottom of page
104. She was fondly referred to as "half pint" which probably means she was petite! Does the Class of 62 also have
someone of the same name? Unfortunately, I can't find my
reunion research book to see how I got the info on a
Sharon Ward from HHS being deceased.
Kathy
Kathy
Here is the confusion...received the following note awhile
back
Dear Bob...I received a call from the husband of
Sharon Wyer Ward (class of 1962) letting me know
that she passed away on October 3, 2012. Sharon
was one of my best friends, a sister that I never had,
and I will miss her terribly. Please post this in the HIX
Newsletter. Hope you are well.
Love ya,
Connie Damarodas Skow 1962
Sharon Ward was her married name, not maiden. I see
Sharon Ward and she is now on the list. I don't think I'm going
to the video over. I'm gonna try to add a note that says
Sharon passed.
Thanks
love yah bob

Why are you doing a

memorial tribute?
I see no reason to do this
at this time.
Phil Kearney
You are the only person who
has asked that question out of
the four or five classes that now
have tributes to those who
have passed.
It's a reminder to remember
those who have been part of
our lives who we share memories with but no longer share
each day. How is your brother doing?? I lost contact with him.
Thanks
Regards bob
p.s. years ago, when
your dad was having a
plumbing problem,
one of my customers
went to correct his
problem. Don't even
remember when that
was??? My dad who
went to school with your
dad passed away in
January of 2001.
Glad he wasn't around
to see 9/11!!!
Here's an old, old memory...

Bob
Damn good looking couple- wow that was a long
time go. I still see no pressing reason for the
memorial(s). BTW it doesnt surprise me that people
from five classes are afraid to question
the reasons for a memorial.
I dont see death the way that most people do. In my
other profession- clinical hypnotherapist- I have had
people recount past lives as well as their reasons for
being in this lifetime. I no longer see physical death
as an end but rather a transition to another level of
existence. The loss of a loved one is indeed very sad
but death is a transition to a better existence until the
next lifetime.
What would be more interesting is a site with the
lives & accomplishments of those of us who are still
alive. What weird things & what great things have
been Could also compare our dreams & ambitions
with what we accomplished & what life has thrown
(continued on next page)

at us- family, occupations, avocations, educational

achievements, artistic & creative accomplishments,
failures, disappointments, charity work, political offices
held, military service etc. Perhaps some of us
accomplished a lot & perhaps others triumphed over great
adversity.
Regards
Phil
More from Phil
My brother Dennis is retired now- living way out in Suffolk
on North shore. Hes very devoted to his grandkids. My
other brother Jack is out in Texas- was an attorney & CPA
who did large business mergers. Now is an investment
entrepreneur.
As for myself, I still practice optometry, one day a week,
and do some cliniucal healing hypnotherapy in my home
office. I also have a healing websitewww.drphilkearney.com with healing CD sessions available. Working on some Apps that promote both physical &
emotional healing- hope to get them
out there to the public in this coming year. As you may
have seen on Facebook- my hobby is pottery & I do that
whenever a creative mood hits me. My father went to
school in Brooklyn- thats where your Dad grew up too?
Never knew that.
Phil.
Phil
My dad lived in Prospect Heights
and went to Manual Training High
School. The Brownstone they lived in
back in the day was demolished and
the property eventually became part
of the Prospect Expressway.
p.s. Manual Training became John Jay
High School and I think is now called
John Jay Academy.

Bob
Just realized that you & I are not friends on Facebook, so Im
going to send you a friend request.
Also seems that you are heavily into alumni activities so I
understand now what the video means to you.
I have never gone to any reunions- primarily because I
attended so many schools early in my life, and I would

never be able to decide which reunions to attend.

Went to two grammar schools- one in Bklyn & one in
Hicksville, two high schools, one in Oyster Bay & then
Hicksville, and then three colleges, one in Garden
City, one in Flushing Queens & then grad school for
four years in Philadelphia. From what I ascertained,
apparently you are making a real contribution to HHS
alumni activities & thats to be commended.
I never knew that our prom picture still existed. I put
it on Facebook & all the women I know thought it was
great. Youll have to tell Eileen that she is now famous
or perhaps were infamous. :-)
Is she retired in Vegas or still working a bit?
Messed up my typing in last email- my web site is:
www.drphilkearney.com
It has a lot of helpful stuff about healing.

Dear HixNews
It is with sadness that I report
the passing of James Walter
Tweedale, HHS Class of 1955,
on June 22 in Altoona, Florida.
Please add his name to the In
Memoriam in the newsletter.
Thank you.
Bob McWilliams
It is sad. I sent several emails
over the past several months to James because I wanted to
add his DVD created for the last 1955 reunion. I wanted to
put it up on You Tube and was looking for permission.
I now know why I didn't get an answer.
Thanks
Buffalo Bob Casale

A note to Maryann Uebel Blane

one.

Bob...
I am in Hicksville for the holidays. I will check when I get
back. I have a 1973 book but I will double check anyway.
Also, I saw in the papers here that Colleen Kiernan passed
away. I will send you her pic when I get back. She was in
my class. Hope you had a nice holiday and a Happy and
Healthy New Year to you and your family. I return to work
on the 20th of January.

That was a tremendous piece of work! Bob we lost so

many and we were so few. Vietnam took its toll but also
the stresses and strains of everyday life culled our numbers
downward. The loss of Dennis Naso was gut-wrenching
but all these classmates passing are a hard pill to swallow.
Bob, about a year ago, I called Dorothy Traub's husband
who lives in North Miami Beach, Florida. He informed me
that she died ten years ago. I sent an e-mail to Allan Just,
David Yigdal and Nancy Sherman. I will see if I still have
that e-mail on file and forward it to you.
Also, you have David Storch 's photo in lieu of Ronald
Tabachnick. Once again, you did a wonderful job and I
hope that this e-mail finds you and finds you well.
God bless,
Jerry Baer
Hi Bob
I have not seen Pat Kocher in about two years but know
she is well and living in Oregon. Pat graduated with my
brother Austin (Buddy) Bowles '61 and we all grew up
together on Acre Lane. I am still very close toPat's sister,
Kathy Kocher '64, and speak to her often. I have an e-mail
for her which is sort of old, so I am not sure if it is still good.
I know both she and Kathy are not really internet/PC
people. This is what I have...Pat Kocher Gerlock (email
concealed) hope this helps!! When I talk to Kathy, I will see
if she still has the same e-mail.

I was kinda surprised, too, at the number who have
passed. Many more could be gone but we have no way
of verifying. I'm hanging in there. I have issues that I'm
dealing with. You know I moved to Augusta back in
2009 to take care of Joyce who had Alzheimers. She
passed a year ago September. Her brother Otto passed
in October of this year. I'm kinda glad I moved because I
doubt I could deal with the cold and really nasty
weather. It gets cold here but not much snow and that's
a good thing. My sister, Eileen, is living in Vegas. Her
husband, Jim, is a Federal Judge. Eileen had the biggest
crush on Charlie in high school. Sister Diane lives in
Oklahoma City. Little sister Pat lives on Maui. Hope you
and Charlie are doing okay. Enjoy the holidays. My
family here consists of my daughter, Dawn and granddaughter, Sarah

Bob
Very touching, but very sad. Brings back many memories.
I didn't see Chris Thiel.
Cathy Arico Joannides & Dennis Joannides
Editor note I missed a couple who were not on my list.
Chris was one and I found out from Gerry Baer that Dorothy
Traub also passed away. I just upgraded the presentation to
include those I forgot. Also found out that Pat Kocher should
not be on the In Memoriam list. Thanks for your reply.

Hey Bob, I was so sorry to hear about Joyce's passing.

As always very much appreciated the In Memoriam Tribute
even though the story is sad.
I see that my old friends,
Marty Diamond and
Arnie Klingenberg had died
since our 50th reunion.
Do you know dates? What
about Neil Rosen? Also, is
there a video of the Class of

September 2011?
Thanks and regards,

Hope you are well. Hard to believe it's been over three years
since our reunion. Here's some information as per your
request.

p.s. I had a note back from Marilyn Bowles who said Patricia
Ann Kocher is alive and well living in Oregon. Trying to
confirm before I have to change the video again. Also was
reminded that Chris Thiel had passed several years back!

I wasn't sure if the record for Marty Diamond is correct

folks in many years, brought
back a lot of mostly good
memories. I was going

found something I would like

your address and I'll get it in
the mail. Hope everything is
well with you and your family.

I had a note back from Gerry Bair and he told me I used David
Storch's picture in lieu of the one for Ron Tabachnick. I went to
power point, made the correction, created a new video and posted
again on You Tube. I was amazed at the list that included 75 people
who we know passed. I wonder how many others that we don't
know about. We are getting up there in years, so!!! I'm at
335 Patton Court
Martinez, GA 30907
The only family here is my daughter, Dawn and Grand Daughter,
Sarah. Enjoy the holidays. Mine are very low key. Nothing like when
the kids were very young and Joyce was still around.

Dianne Elizabeth (Millett) Giansante

born in New York, passed away on 12/11/14 at the

age of 67 in Jacksonville, Fl. She is preceded in
death by her mother, Helen Jean (Edwards)
Millett and father, Robert Lawrence Millett;
survived by her brother Bruce Robert Millett of
Jacksonville, Fl; her daughter, Stacy (Giansante)
Hilton, and two granddaughters, all of St. Johns,
Fl. Dianne was born in Brooklyn, raised in
Hicksville, NY; graduated from Hicksville High
School in 1965. She moved to Ocala, Fl in 1978 where she raised her
daughter. In 1991, she relocated to Jacksonville, Fl. After a long career
as an administrative assistant, Dianne retired from Shapiro Insurance
Group in Jacksonville, Fl in 2013. Dianne was a very devoted mother and
grandmother, loved and admired by many. She will be missed dearly.

Hicksville's very own Paul Korman had a visionary quest to

create the ultimate Motown tribute band. He has put together an
amazing array of seasoned musicians and singers that he's either
played with or wanted to play with over the years. Together they
have become Dr. K's Motown Revue. This outstanding band of
musicians and vocalists takes you on a very realistic journey of the
Motown sound, and makes you want to sing along on every
familiar song they play. They have kept the Motown sound true
to its roots and each and every performance they do
transports you back to another era.

Dear Bob
What a marvelous gift to be able to share your
amazing video today!!! Thanks very much for
including me. Looking back is always so special
and especially when you traveled to exotic ports
and saw many wonderful things!! It was great to
see Eileen, Chris, & Ronni --- plus your Mom whom
I remember so fondly. You're very talented at
editing & putting together such an informative,
interesting piece!!! Thanks again!
I think of you often, & wonder about your health.
How are you? I imagine your lovely daughter and
Grand Daughter are ready for Christmas. Do other
family members come home, or do you travel to be

with them for the holiday season? Regardless, pray

it will be a happy, special one for you all, providing
only more remarkable memories for possible
future videos!! Merry Christmas & a healthy, happy
2015!! Tonight my daughters & families come here
so I have last minute details to complete, but hope
to hear from you again soon, dear friend!!! Please
give my best to Chris!!! I contacted several classmates but she was only one that ever responded.
Take care and know you're being thought of by an
old friend here in Oklahoma!!! LoveCarmen
A note from my cousin,

That was nothing short of fantastic! I really enjoyed that. Great
memories for you, I'm sure.
Editors note Don is a recording
engineer who has recorded the
following artists and this list
includes only those he could
remember off the top of his head:
Rascals, Cufflinks, Aretha Franklin,
Dionne Warwick, Tiny Tim, Delaney and Bonnie,
Vanilla Fudge, Janis Ian, Mike Douglas, Petula Clark,
Florence Henderson, King Curtis, Billy Joel, Sandy
Duncan and the one that earned him a Gold
Record (that eventually went Platinum) Iron Butterfly IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA album (and it was the first
Platinum Record ever).
Don said: That gold record is for Iron Butterfly's
(continued on next page)

IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA album before it went Platinum. It sold so many copies (biggest selling record of
all time for a long while) that the RIAA decided to
have something bigger than gold, and Platinum was
born. As the story goes, I told the band to start
rehearsing the song and when I'm ready setting my
levels, we'll start recording. But I started recording
the rehearsal without them knowing it, and this is
why they played on and on for 17 minutes and 5
seconds. It was supposed to be a regular 3 minute
song. The label, Atlantic Records, was afraid to put
the record out, saying it'll take up the whole side of
the LP. Finally they relented, and the rest is history.
