SPSS:

TOPICS AND MENUS

MENU DATA

- Split file: in order to run the following analysis on separate groups of
observations
- Select cases: in order to exclude some observation, according to some rule,
from the analysis

MENU TRANSFORM

- Compute variable: in order to compute a new variable from variables in
the data set
- Recode into different variables: in order to recode, i.e. merging
characteristics of a variable together, an existing variable into a different
one
- Visual binning: in order to transform a continuos variable into a
categorical one

MENU ANALYZE DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS

- Frequencies: it allows the user to compute all the principal measures of a
variable (mean, median, mode, quartiles, percentiles, and measures of
variablility), and some graphs (bar chart, pie chart, histogram). It also
allows the user to display frequency distributions for qualitative and
quantitative discrete variables
- Descriptives: it allows the user to compute mean, sum of the observed
value for a variable, measures of variability, kurtosis and skewness
- Explore: in order to compute measures of central tendency and variability,
outliers, and percentiles for a variable, allowing for the specification of a
factor and therefore a stratified analysis for such variable according to the
specified factor. It allows to draw box plots for the variable stratified
according to a factor, and histograms.

MENU GRAPHS Legacy dialog

In order to draw the most common plots: bar chart (simple, clustered, and
stacked), pie chart, histogram, box plot, population pyramid (for stratified
analysis), scatterplot for bivariate analysis.

MENU ANALYZE CROSSTABS

The sub menu statistics allows to compute the Chi Square statistics with the
corresponding pvalue, while the sub menu cells allows to specify the entry of
the contingency table: observed counts, expected counts under the hypothesis of
independence, conditional frequencies by row and by column

MENU ANALYZE CORRELATE bivariate

It allows to compute covariances and correlations among continuos variables

MENU ANALYZE REGRESSION Curve Estimation

It allows to run a linear regression model (if linear if flagged), specifying a
dependent and an independent variable. The output shows the estimated
coefficients, according to the least square method, the plots (if flagged), the R2
and the ANOVA table (if flagged) with the decomposition of the deviance of the
dependent variable into SSR and SSE.
It also allows to save predicted value of the dependent variables for observed
value of the independent variable in the data set, and related residuals
