ManageMen Continues the ANSI Accreditation

Process for Its Custodial Training Programs
ManageMen, Inc., an education and
consulting company with a focus on custodial operations, is continuing the accreditation process for
its training programs
through the American
National Standards Institutes (ANSI) Certificate Accreditation Program (CAP). In April
ManageMen will be offering its annual certification training program in Orlando, FL.
Our training programs focused on
cleaning skills of frontline workers have
been well attended and continuously improved over the past 20 years, says Jill
Edmunds, at ManageMen. We feel like
pursuing ANSI CAP is the next logical
step for custodial training offerings. The
end result will bring much more value
and recognition to the trainer and cleaning worker.
ManageMen training programs are
notable for the prescriptive approach
to cleaning and the interactive role the
trainer plays with the workers.
ANSI-CAP process accredits organizations that issue education and training certificates to the U.S. workforce. The
CAP program is a formal, third-party
process for review and recognition of a
quality certificate program. ANSI-CAP
provides neutral, third-party authentication that a given certificate program
meets the ASTM E2659-09, Standard
Practice for Certificate Programs, which is
a standard developed by ASTM International.

By documenting compliance to this

standard, certificate programs further
the development of a well-educated and
qualified workforce.
By bringing its (OS1) Trainer course
into alignment with the ASTM-E2659.
We have to submit our curriculum,
document control and business to a rigorous 3rd party audit, Edmunds says.
When this process is complete and our
programs are in alignment, this will be a
professional certificate for custodial that
has gone through the scrutiny of a true
3rd party. A voluntary proctored examination will be conducted at the end of
the class. The exam will be developed by
a 3rd party provider.
ManageMen has developed a number
of successful cleaning industry training programs including Janitor University, (OS1) Trainer, (OS1) Coach, (OS1)
Workloading, (OS1) Hard Floor Care,

(OS1) Carpet Care, Disaster/First Responder Training for Custodial Operations.

ANSI-CAP also provides quality
benchmarks for the design of future
certificate programs. With these benchmarks, workers and employers are better
able to determine the value and meaning
of training and educational certificates,
helping to boost the overall quality of the
American workforce.
Other nationally recognized training
programs that have undergone the ANSICAP program include food handlers permits, US Army aviation safety, US Army
explosive safety, HVAC apprenticeship
programs and the CrossFit Level 1 course.

FAMOUS JANITORS

The Most Beautiful Woman

in the World was a Janitor
She was born Ursula Schmidt on May
15, 1924, in Hamburg, Germany. Her father was warm with her, while her mother was the disciplinarian. Ursulas life was
upended when her father disappeared
out of her life when she was only eleven.
She didnt know what happened to him
until the day she overheard details of his
having been sentenced to a year in prison
for embezzlement.
Ursula and her mother had to give up
their nice apartment in Hamburg for a
more modest one they had to share with
an elderly couple. Ursula earned money
as a janitor in the apartment building
where they lived. The janitor job kept
her and her mother alive with a roof over
their heads even though Ursula was a
young teenager.
Then Ursulas mother got a divorce
and married a Shakespearean actor. The
new stepfather had a drinking problem,
but otherwise got along well with his
new family and added something extra:
he encouraged Ursula to act. He helped
stimulate my acting ambition, Ursula
later recalled. Every Christmas season he
would help her get work in Christmas
plays.
Ursula loved watching movies. She
would later recall the time she swooned
over the love scenes in Camille when
Greta Garbo was in the arms of an extremely handsome young actor named

Robert Taylor.
At fifteen Ursula was
forced to leave school due to
the Nazi governments compulsory labor policies, forcing even young girls to enter
the work force. She worked
a year as a farm hand. When
the years term was up she
returned to Hamburg and
her mother.
Now sixteen, she wanted
to be an actress. She auditioned at theaters all over the
city, but she suffered from
stage fright when her turn
came to perform. She got the
axe every time, until one day
she auditioned for a committee of ten directors from
various theaters. This time Ursula Thiess great beauty, teenaged janitor.

the fact that she was an extremely beautiful woman. A studio contract followed,
but actually her own idea of the greatest
career of all was to be a wife and mother.
Robert Taylor, the MGM star, was
making a movie in England when he saw
a picture of Ursula in the paper. He was
smitten, and when he came home he he
arranged a date with Ursula. Taylor arrived at her apartment and when Ursula
opened up the door, there he stood with
a smile on his face followed by a simple
introduction, Im Bob Taylor.
They enjoyed each others company
and unlike Taylors first wife, Barbara
Stanwyck, Ursula was game to try anything he did, including hunting, fishing
and flyingall keenly enjoyed by her
rugged outdoorsman husband.

film with his frequent costar, Eleanor
Parker, Many Rivers to Cross. Ursula
was still working as an actress herself, but
her goal was to get out of acting and devote herself to her husband and children.
Her final film was Bandido with
Robert Mitchum. She then announced
her retirement to devote her time to her
children and husband. The family settled
on a ranch in Mandeville Canyon, CA.
and within three years a baby girl was
added to the family. She was named Tessa and close family friends Ronald and
Nancy Reagan became her godparents.
Though she had given up acting, Ursula did return, but only to work with
her husband on his new TV series, The
Detectives, after it was decided that Taylors tough police captain needed a love
interest. But most of all, Ursula enjoyed
the life she and Taylor led on their ranch
with their children.
In 1968 their idyllic days came to an
end. Taylors years of chain smoking finally caught up with him when he was
diagnosed with lung cancer. His doctors
removed a lung but the prognosis was
grim, and Ursula became a full-time care
giver for her dying husband.
On June 7, 1969, it was made public that Robert Taylor was dying. Close
friend Nancy Reagan immediately flew
down from the governors mansion in
Sacramento to keep Ursula company for
a few hours. Ursula was amazing during that time. When she left to return
to Sacramento, Nancy stepped outside
the room and was in the hospital corridor when she suddenly felt an urge to
turn around and see Bob one last time.
I returned to his room and kissed him

once more and told Ursula, Mutti, I love
you, before slipping quietly and painlessly into his final coma. Bob died at ten
in the morning on June 8th with Ursula
still holding him in her arms.
In 2004 she published her autobiography, . . . but I have promises to keep:
My Life Before, With and After Robert
Taylor. Ursula passed away on June 19,
2010 at an assisted living facility near the
home of her daughter Tessa in Burbank,
California. She was 86.
A shy girl from a troubled background, she matured into a strong and
caring woman who had to weather more
than her share of the storms of life. While
few today remember her film career, the
story of her life remains an inspiration to
all who knew her. A life that included being a teenaged janitor in Hamburg, Germany before WWII.
