The NATO Modelling and Simulation Group (NMSG) is now an integral part of the
NATO Research and Technology Organisation and reports to the NATO Research
and Technology Board (RTB).
The RTB reports in parallel to the Conference of National Armament Directors and
to the Military Committee. These two Committees in turn report to highest
authority in NATO the North Atlantic Council (figure 16).

The Modelling and Simulation Co-ordination Office (fig. 18) is a permanent group
of National experts residing in the RTA in Paris who carry out, on a day-to-day
basis, the policy and strategy set by NMSG.
The MSCO, as well as administering policy and strategy, also conduct technical
programmes of work.
Graham Burrows was the Head of the NATO Modelling and Simulation Coordination Office. If you are looking at web sites you will find the vision of this
gentleman that served the NMSG for many years and just recently retired. The
NATO Modeling and Simulation course will provide you with an overview of the
NATO Modelling and Simulation, the development of a NATO M&S Master
Plan/Action Plan and the increasing importance that Modelling and Simulation
now affords in NATO activities.
Advances in low cost, high power computers, graphics and
telecommunications/networking advances are the key technologies that provides
NATO with opportunities to use distributed simulations in new and exciting ways.
In an era of Force structure reductions, shrinking budgets and environmental
restrictions, M&S provide the opportunity to create, relatively inexpensively,
realistic simulation environments. These applications will help to save resources,
build teams within the Alliance and Partners and will provide timely and
increasingly accurate information to decision makers.
