Chmara yoga (Chamara in Sanskrit: - means chowrie or yak-tail which is an insignia of royalty),[1] as the very
name suggests, is an auspicious yoga (planetary combination) which blesses a person with name, fame and riches;
and a Rja yoga which confers upon a person a high social and official status, and ability and opportunity to lead,
rule and administer.

The standard texts on Hindu astrology have given three versions of Chmara yoga.
According to Parashara Chmara yoga arises if Jupiter aspects the exalted lord of the lagna situated in a
kendrasthana or if two benefic planets combine in the lagna, in the 7th, in the 10th or in the 9th bhava. The person
will be a king, honoured by kings, long lived, scholarly, eloquent and versed in all arts. [2] This Raja yoga is based on
the placement of the lord of the lagna in the auspicious bhavas beneficially influenced by the most benefic planet,
Jupiter. In this event the lord of the lagna becomes the Raja yoga-karaka. Janardan Harji begins the Raja yoga
section of Mansagari stating If at the time of birth the lord of lagna vested with strength is a kendrasthana or in
a trikonasthana or in the 11th house from the lagna the person will be blessed with the whole paraphernalia befitting
a king; the person if lowly born will live like a king.[3] Parashara himself states that if the yoga-kraka is in an
auspicious bhava, sign or navamsa it makes one blessed with plenty of wealth but if such an auspicious planet is in
a kendrasthana the person becames a ruler; if the rasi or navamsa or drekkena rising in the lagna-bhava, ghatilagna and hora-lagna or any two are aspected by a strong planet a Raja yoga will arise. [4] Even otherwise, the
exalted lord of the lagna occupying a kendrasthana will be causing a Panch Mahapurusha yoga. Vaidyanatha
Dikshita has given the Parasari description of Chamara yoga in his Jataka Parijata and states that the person will be
either a philosopher, wise, eloquent, and held high in esteem by kings or be a king who being competent by birth to
enter on the study of the sacred scriptures has mastered everything connected therewith and live for seventy-one
years.[5]
Mantreswara gives a different version of Chamara yoga. In Sloka 44 of Chapter VI of his Phaladeepika, he states
that if the lagna is either occupied or aspected by a benefic planet, the lord of the lagna is not combust and is in
an auspicious bhava in its own sign or own vargas, then Chamara yoga is caused; the person blessed with this
yoga will be good-looking, attractive, intelligent, wealthy, respected and a king who will prosper like the bright-half
waxing Moon.[6] This yoga highlights the importance of the strength of the lord of the lagna and the benefic influence
it happens to receive.
According to Jatakadesh Marga, which states: |
||

Chamara yoga will arise for the person born in the day-time on a shukla-paksha (period of brightening of
the Moon) tithi who has the lord of the lagna occupying its exaltation sign and Jupiter is either in the 2nd
house or in a kendrasthana from the lagna.[7] The basis of this Raja yoga formation is the strength of the lord
of the lagna, the lagna-kendra and the 10th house and with the Moon shining brightly in the night-sky and
the Sun occupying the 9th, the 10th or the 11th bhava counted from the lagna. Jupiter situated in a
kendrasthana, trikonasthana or the 11th house from the lagna cancels the adverse effects of all weak
planets if there be any, and makes one lead a grand life.[8]

Chamara Yoga
If the native is born in the moon cycle of bright lunar fortnight or waxing moon and lord of 1st
house is very strong and Jupiter is positioned in a trikone house then Chamara yoga is formed.
Native of Chamara yoga will be healthy, strong in physically, mentally and financially. This
persons leads a happy life and can be happy in any situation.. He or she will be aristocratic.
Person born in this yoga is the best in the family and others in the family or relatives will be
known by him or her. This person travels different countries to take educational trainings or
similar nature of work. Person with Chamara yoga maintain steady and stable life with routine life
style and does not normally deviate from daily routine.
If Jupiter is weak, this yoga may not be fully working and in this case a remedy of Jupiter will help
to get full benefit of the same. If Jupiter is the lord of Ascendant or lagna then this yoga becomes
very strong. If Jupiter is aspected by any malefic planet then this yoga will not be fully effective
and they may not exist any remedy with may weaken the aspecting planet. If there is a malefic
planet in ascendant or if Rahu or Ketu is in ascendant then this yoga will not be effective or
sometime partially effective and the person will not get the benefit of this auspicious yoga. In my
personal experience, I have noticed that in case of Venus being the lord of ascendant, this yoga
is found to be ineffective.
There are few conjugations of Chamara Yoga. It is as follows:
If the owner of the first house the planet Jupiter is aspected by the planet Venus and captures the
second, fifth, eighth or the eleventh house.
If the Ascendant is movable i.e. Chara and the owner of the first captures the ninth or the tenth.
If ascendant is aspected by the planet Jupiter and the Navamshsa god of the planet Jupiter
captures a dignified place.
If the planet Sun is located in the Vargottamshamsa, the owner of the first id dignified and the
planet Mercury captures the fifth or the ninth house.
If the ascendant is located in the Chara Moon Sign, the owner of the first house in located in the
twelfth house, the planet Jupiter is in the Kendra and birth takes place in the Sukla Paksha.
If the owner of the first house is dignified, the owner of the eleventh is in the ninth and the lagna
is in the fixed sign.
If the birth time is the day, the Moon is powerful and complete and when the owner of the first
house is dignified and ascendant is mixed be any other planet.
If the owner of the first is in the movable navamsa and the owner of the tenth house captures
Moveable Moon Sign and the owner of the fourth is located in the seventh house.

If the owner of the first in the ninth, the owner of the fourth house is dignified and captures the
central position and other planet mixes with the central houses of the owner of the fourth house.

Chamara Yoga
This yoga occurs when ascendant lord is placed in angles without getting any malefic aspect and
aspected by Jupiter. This yoga can also be formed if two benefic planets are placed in ascendant,
7th, 9th or in 10th house.
As 1st house means all about life, vision to life and is the starting point.
4th house stands for immovable assets.
7th house stands for marital life
9th house stands for luck.
10th house stands for professional life.
Jupiter stands for wisdom, higher learning, spirituality and happiness.
Thus chamara yoga give results according to the planets positioned in particular house.
For ex Ascendant lord is placed in 7th house in exalted form and Jupiter is aspecting 7th house
in that case this yoga forms which will be good for overall growth, one will be lucky in his/her
marriage.
One will succeed in partnership business.
One will get chances of travelling.
One will have name, fame after marriage.
In this way it can be seen that how placement of planets in different houses can give different
results. As far as strength of this yoga is concerned it will depends upon if this planets and
houses are getting any malefic aspect. If they are getting malefic aspect then intensity of results
will be reduced.
