Requirement

High level requirement

Higher user data rates

Improved system capacity and coverage
Reduced latency
Reduced overall cost (Low CAPEX and COEX)

Various access networks support

Inter-RAT mobility management
Service continuity between different access system
Simultaneous accessing different system

Core network evolution

Compatible with existing access network

Interworking with existing CN network
Migration CS service including SS to PS domain
Scalable, simple and easy

HUAWEI

Performance (1/5)
Delay reduction
Reduce un-necessary interim processing of IP packet
on the data path
IP Packet compression/decompression between the AN and
the MS

Reduce data hop number

Optimization of data flow for real time multimedia flow
Generally, intra-city call (located in the same PCF and PDSN)
take 40%, this is a big saving

Avoid transmission congestion

QoS
Application QoS
Radio resource (AN)
Core Network Resource (PDSN/HA)
Transmission Resource

Considering the increased DL/UL data rate (100M/30M), the

transmission resource among AN/PCF, PDSN, HA, PDN and
internet will become the bottleneck in the future.
Operator needs cost-effective bearer for IOS interface to meet
vary kind of network deploy scenario
Diffserv and MPLS TE cant solve QoS problem completely,
Over-Provisioning is still widely used
Transmission resource management should under the operators
service control, available transmission resource and granularity
of resource should notify the resource management point to
avoid transmission congestion

Multi Access System (2/5)

Mobility management
MIP
HA acts as the anchor point between different access system
HA forward data to PDSN or PDIF based on the access
system mobility info
PDSN or PDIF forward data to destination via HA
There has no impact on IMS domain

Simple IP
Re-negotiation procedure just as today

Inter-AS MM
Manage different access system attach info
Interact with AAA to notify HA the current access point and
routing info
Interact with IMS for presence and other service

Service continuity
MIP can support session continuity, still not
enough for seamless service
Big challenge to real-time multimedia service
