Hyper Terminal and Telnet of System boot up and System Loader

To be used for diagnosing communication problems.

Hyper Terminal Session
1) Click on Start-Programs-Accessories-Hyper Terminal.
2) Pick any Icon. Enter a Name
3) Select Serial 1 or 2.
4) Connect serial cable from com 1 or 2 on back of PC to serial connector on back of TestStar IIs
chassis, or Com 1 of serial transition card in back of 498, or to Debug RJ45 connector on front of
498.96 processors.

software, you can also install the Tera Term Pro application by running the c:\Program Files\
teraterm_utf8-4.58.exe executable.
Tera Term Pro Session
1) After installing Tera Term Pro, launch the Tera Term Pro application by selecting it from Start>All Programs->Tera Term Pro program group.
2) Select the Serial radio button and select the appropriate PC COM port.
3) Connect the serial cable between the PC and the processor in the controller chassis.
4) For more information about using Tera Term Pro, consult the help documentation included with
the application.

The part numbers for the serial cables are listed below or you can make them with the pin outs provided.
The 498.93-1 processor uses a serial cable that has a 9 pin D connector on the PC Com 1 end and a 25 pin D
connector on the processor side. The pin outs are as follows:
9 Pin Connector
25 Pin Connector
(498.93)
(PC)
Pin 2 ------------------------ Pin 2
Pin 3 ------------------------ Pin 3
Pin 5 ------------------------ Pin 7
The 498.95-1 processor uses a serial cable (part # 560776-01) that has a 9 pin D connector on the PC Com 1 and
a 9 pin D connector on the processor side. The pin outs are as follows:
9 Pin Connector
9 pin Connector
(489.95)
(PC)
Pin 2 ------------------------ Pin 3
Pin 3 ------------------------ Pin 2
Pin 5 ------------------------ Pin 5
The 498.96-X processors uses a serial cable (part # 560777-01) that has a 9 pin D connector on the PC Com 1 and
an RJ-45 connector on the processor side. The pin outs are as follows:
RJ-45 Connector
9 pin Connector
(489.96 debug)
(PC)
Pin 4 (Orange) ----------- Pin 2
Pin 5 (Green) ------------- Pin 3
Pin 6 (Red) ---------------- Pin 5
The 498.96-1 processor will need to have switch 8 of S3 in the "On" position to see the serial information. Also on a
FTIIm system with 498.96-1 processors, the first processor (cpu-0) cannot be used for serial information as it sends
serial data to the 497.01 chassis so you must use the second processor (cpu-1Debug port, Set S3 8 to on) for
serial information. You can Telnet into the first processor (cpu-0) if needed.
