REPORT
First day of the workshop was headed by Mr.Nikhil Chowdary, Technical
Head, Design and Prototyping Centre, ESCI, who gave an overview of Rapid
Prototyping in which he discussed in brief about the types of Rapid Prototyping or
Additive
Manufacturing
like
Fused
Deposition
Modeling
(FDM),
Stereolithography(SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Selective Laser
Melting(SLM), Electron Beam Melting(EBM) etc.
Nikhil presented different
applications in different industries like Aerospace, Architecture & Construction,
Health care, Tissue Engineering / Bio-Printing and also purposefully explained 3D
Scanning
In the second session of the first day, Dr.Y.Ravi Kumar, Asst. Prof,
Department of Mechanical Engg., NIT Warangal explained the different materials
used and the market type for different 3D printing systems. He covered
historical perspective and present scenario of 3D printing. He also discussed so
many applications related to prototyping, Tooling, Metal Casting, Architectural,
Medical & Dental as well as Direct part production systems.
