TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY DESIGN

TREE PLANTING
Chapter, Maputi, Banaybanay, Davao Oriental
July 27, 2013
RATIONALE
The One billion trees campaign of Pinoy has been very successful in
terms of promoting tree planting activities in homes for ornamental and
environmental protection in cities, towns, villages and other settlements.
Trees are planted for a number of reasons in homes and these include
planting trees to provide shade, fruits, medicines, wood for crafts, fodder,
fuel-wood, poles for construction etc. Trees are also planted to act as
windbreak, to stabilize soils and for aesthetic reasons. The tree planting has
changed the landscape in many settlements including some cattle-posts.
National Tree Planting Day Program has instilled some conservation
practices in some communities in the country. Conservation of forest
resources is considered as part of environmental protection. There are
community projects which were established through this program and these
include soil conservation and agro-forestry projects. Environmental clubs in
schools have undertaken tree planting activities in schools and degraded
sites. There is need to intensify public education on conservation of natural
forest resource especially where these resources are exploited heavily for
commercial purposes. Deforestation is occurring in the surroundings of many
settlements as a result of unsustainable harvesting practices.
