Main Events
Act I:
1. A ship travels from Ireland to Cornwall; Isolde is to marry King
Marke
2. The sailors chanting makes Isolde irate; she damns the crew
and the ship
3. Isolde demands to see Tristan; Kurwenal reminds her that
Tristan killed her fianc, Morold. Despite this, Isolde had taken
pity on Tristan and spared his life
4. Isolde asks Brangane to concoct a death potion for her and
Tristan to drink. Instead, Brangane makes a love potion

Act II:
1. King Marke departs for a hunting journey
2. Despite Branganes warnings about a jealous Melot, Isolde and
Tristan meet and embrace
3. The virtue of the night; daytime is an illusion that distorts the
truth (its what forced Tristan to bring Isolde to Cornwall)
4. Daytime brings Melot and the Kings return; Melot mortally
wounds Tristan

Act III:
1. Back in Brittany (Tristans hometown), Tristan longs for Isolde.
In the delirium scene, he visits the realm of the night and
clings on to life so he can Isolde with him
2. A shepherd promises to change his sorrowful pipe tune to a
happy one upon seeing Isoldes ship
3. The tune changes and Tristan removes his bandages in a state
of impulse
4. Tristan dies in Isoldes arms; his last word is Isolde
5. Marke, Melot and Brangane follow; Kurwenal kills Melot and
Marke in an act of vengeance followed by his own death
6. Isolde is transfigured in death, passing on into the next world
to be with Tristan
