What is DataSniff ?
DataSniff is a patent-pending, automated search technology able to scan structured and unstructured
datasets and database tables in mainframes, allowing customers to search for specific and defined sensitive
information.
As the ONLY automated technology, DataSniff is the most comprehensive data discovery tool in the DLP
market today. DLP technologies have become the primary resource used to locate sensitive data as a
prerequisite to data classification, database auditing, compliance, data security or IAM initiatives.
DataSniff enables security and compliance professionals to access mainframe data, both online and migrated,
and scan it for sensitive information that is regulated by various industry mandates or government regulations.
DataSniff will locate rogue datasets and database tables that are unknown to the installation, but contain
sensitive information.

The software can be installed and deployed in less than one day,
with scans enabled immediately. Its features include:
The ability to analyze mainframe datasets in a variety of formats including: VSAM, QSAM, BDAM, and BSAM,
including PDSs, PDSEs and GDGs; as well as mainframe hierarchical and relational databases such as IMS*,
DB2*, Datacom and IDMS.
Patent-pending ability to recall migrated data sets to analyze them for unprotected sensitive data then
automatically re-migrate them back to secondary or tertiary storages to preserve and properly manage primary
disk storage.
Ability to scan structured and unstructured data to incorporate text fields, text documents and notes fields, as
well as structured data sets where the structure is unknown or unavailable, include patent pending mechanism
to find and decode packed decimals into the holistic data discovery approach.
The Schedule by Media Type feature incorporates a granular calendar application to manage and control
usage of finite resources like primary disk space, tape readers and even CPU cycles and control this by day of
week or time of day so as not to interfere with online responsiveness, batch processing windows, etc.
The DataSniff Reporting Framework allows customers to generate reports and lists of data set names based
on LRD, Create Date, hit count, media type, etc. which will enable them to quickly identify data sets which
have a common remediation strategy, facilitating the generation of scripts to perform batch remediation or
protection changes.
DataSniff can intelligently reduce resources needed to periodically re-analyze data sets by leveraging Last
Referenced Date (LRD), limiting analysis of data sets to only those that have been referenced since the last
time it was analyzed.
All current IBM supported versions of z/OS are supported by the DataSniff product.
