2.1 BRIEF BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In the society nowadays, people almost ignore healthy eating lifestyle.
Most of the people prefer to eat meat rather than fruits and vegetables and they
dont take exercise regularly. These habits may lead to serious health problems
and may affect their daily activities if not prevented initially.
These health problems may include deficiencies, digestive issues, disease
risks, cardiovascular health issues, and weight problems. Lack of vitamins like
vitamin C and vitamin A may result to slow wound healing and poor eyesight
respectively while lack of minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium
may not be able to support nerve and cardiovascular functioning. When it comes
to digestive issues, fruits and vegetables are rich in fiber in which, if not taken,
would not be able to support the proper functioning of the intestine. Fiber speeds
up the waste as it passes through the digestive system and helps to avoid
constipation and hemorrhoids. The opposite will surely happens if fiber is not
been taken. Diabetes and other related diseases may also occur if fruits and
vegetables are neglected. The role of fiber in our body continues as it helps
regulate blood levels and may lessen the risk of diabetes. Cardiovascular health
is also important and not eating fruits and vegetables may lead to increase in risk
of having high blood pressure or stroke.
Eating fruits and vegetables alone is not enough when talking about
healthy eating lifestyle. People also need to consider where those crops are
come from in order to be confident that they are eating fresh and organic fruits

and vegetables. The use of pesticide on crops may harm not only the crops itself
but the people who will be eating it. Thats why farmers search for different
methods that may lessen the risk of having pests on their crops and reduce or
even eliminate the use of pesticides.
Another concern in the society is about the negligence of most of the
people in having a cleaner and greener environment. As observed in urban
areas, there are almost none of the land areas allotted for agricultural purposes
(because of the modernization). Majority of what you see are those commercial
buildings and infrastructure. With this, people forget how important having a
greener environment is. Although some schools and organizations are committed
to promoting this, still, many Filipinos are unaware of the situation when it comes
to environmental issues.
The above-mentioned issue regarding health and environment is one
factor that the proponents have observed to arrive on the feasibility study of a
greenhouse restaurant. It is expected to fulfill the health needs of the people and
at the same time experience the goodness of a greener surrounding. It is also
anticipated that the concept will become an eye-opener for those who forget to
practice the need for healthy lifestyle.
