electric range. It even allows you to call up information on the charging process from a distance.

The passenger compartment is built in high-strength carbon that not only reduces weight by being per cent
lighter than aluminium but also provides optimum safety, while enabling a spacious, open interior. The absence of
a central tunnel, a free-standing steering column and raised seat positions give the interior a free and open feel. In
addition, the single-piece rear seat and two individual front seats create a completely new sense of space, made
even more appealing by doors that open in opposite directions.

LIFE DRIVE ARCHITECTURE MAKES THE BMW i LIGHTER, ALLOWS AN OPEN
INTERIOR DESIGN AND OPTIMISES DRIVEABILITY AND SAFETY.

The unique interplay of two modules: The

passenger compartment in high-strength and
extremely light carbon (Life-Module) is
connected to the aluminium chassis (DriveModule) via an innovative bonding process.
Revolutionary vehicle architecture dispenses
with the need for B-pillars and a central tunnel.
And this, in turn, allows the BMW i to offer
unprecedented, class-leading spaciousness.

The LifeDrive architecture consists of two separate units that

complement each other perfectly. The upper Life-Module is the
passenger compartment. True to the BMW EfficientDynamics principle
of intelligent lightweight construction, it is made of carbon-fibre reinforced
plastic also known as CFRP or simply carbon. This optimum material
mix ensures the highest dynamics and, at the same time, the best
efficiency. The lower Drive-Module incorporates the BMW eDrive
electric system with the large lithium-ion high-voltage battery. The
battery cells are fully integrated into the under section and fill the entire
central area of the Drive-Module.

This ensures optimal axle load distribution, a low centre of gravity and,
therefore, excellent driving dynamics. Aluminium profile surrounds the
high-voltage battery and protects it from external influences. As the
BMW eDrive system as a whole is significantly more compact than a
comparable combustion engine, it is possible to house the electric
motor, transmission unit and drive electronics within a very small area
over the driven rear axle, thereby saving space.

Low centre of gravity for high driving dynamics: The aluminium

chassis, electric motor, lithium-ion high-voltage battery and intelligent
drivetrain electronics are combined in the Drive-Module embedded in the
vehicle. This lowers the centre of gravity which contributes to the
exceptional agility and safety of the BMW i.

Intelligent, space-saving design: The Drive-Module incorporates all the

chassis, heating/air-conditioning and drivetrain components as well as the
high-voltage battery. In this way it contributes to optimum use of space.

The lithium-ion high-voltage battery has a long service life. Should, however, any defects occur in the high-voltage battery during the first eight years and within the first 100,000km, your BMW i Agent will
rectify them free of charge. Please refer to your BMW i battery certificate for further details.

in the BMW i develops impressive peak output of kW
(hp) and maximum torque of Nm. The power from the
electric motor is transmitted directly to the rear wheels via a
single-stage gearbox. BMW eDrive is a perfect example of
BMW EfficientDynamics technology, drawing its energy from
the high-performance cells of the lithium-ion high-voltage
battery without producing any local CO emissions. To
increase reach, the BMW i is also available with the Range

Nm of torque from a standing start: Thanks to its hightorque electric motor, you can pull away in the BMW i with total
confidence, leaving more powerful vehicles standing over the first
few metres. It also glides in near-silence through city traffic and,
thanks to its impressive torque, rear-wheel drive and small turning
circle, offers exceptional agility.

Extender on request. The Range Extender is a small, very

smooth and quiet two-cylinder petrol engine that drives a
generator. It automatically switches on when the charge level of
the high-voltage lithium-ion battery reaches a minimum.
When there is a charge level of about per cent, the Range
Extender can also be switched on manually. This supplies the
high-voltage battery with energy to continue powering the
electric motor.

TECHNOLOGY
AT A GLANCE.

The completely emissions-free electric drive system of the BMW i enables

a range of up to km in normal conditions with the car in COMFORT
mode. Thanks to the intelligent ECO PRO and ECO PRO+ drive modes, this
can be increased still further, while the BMW i with Range Extender even
makes around km possible.
Additionally, an optional heat pump ensures constant heating comfort but
with up to per cent better energy efciency compared with conventional
heating. Indeed, with this, range increases of over per cent are possible in
cold weather. Just as the air conditioning system uses energy from ambient
air in summer, the innovative heat pump system does the same in winter.
Selected interior temperatures are maintained by fully automatic switching

BMW i CONNECTED DRIVE SERVICES.

Innovations for the most efficient route: With BMW i
ConnectedDrive navigation services, specially orientated to
electro-mobility and available with the navigation system
option, you will reach your destination easily and safely. The
central feature is the Range Assistant with dynamic range
mapping. This shows available range, accounting for geographic
factors, real-time traffic, charge status and driving behaviour. If
range is insufficient, the Range Assistant independently

suggests either an energy-efficient ECO Route or recommends

that you select a BMW i ChargeNow charging station or another
contracted partner. Additionally, public transport system
information can be integrated for route planning. This can be
displayed, as required, in the navigation system. Two ranges
can be shown in the Control Display at the same time: the
current drive mode and ECO PRO+ from BMW
EfficientDynamics which indicates maximum reach.

The BMW i provides a wealth of intelligent

ConnectedDrive Services that the driver can
easily operate using a smartphone. With the
BMW i Remote App for iOS and Android, a
route can be planned and chosen before a
drive. You then simply transfer the destination
details to the vehicle. You can even check the
maximum possible range and battery charge
status. Essentially, this app means you always
have ready access to important vehicle data
wherever you go. Additionally, with the
optional navigation system, points of interest
(POI) and charging stations within range can
be located and their data sent to the vehicle.
For more comfort and to extend range, the
app also allows you to pre-condition the
vehicle interior and heat the lithium-ion highvoltage battery.

of ways. BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems
make travel in the BMW i not only safer, but also more
convenient. And intelligent features lighten the load on the
driver and minimise dangers in traffic.

As part of the optional Driving Assistant Plus and Park Assistance packages, the BMW i offers a wealth of innovative camera and radar-based
systems that cannot be found on this scale in other electric vehicles.
Approach Control Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City
Braking function.
This provides active support by preventing, or reducing the consequences
of, accidents involving pedestrians. If you fail to see a pedestrian or an
obstacle, the system automatically slows the vehicle using the light city
braking function. Ideally, this means that collisions are avoided entirely. The
system works at speeds up to km/h and in daylight. Various sensors
within the vehicle monitor the road ahead at all times. If there is the risk of
a collision, the system warns you in advance, primes the brakes for optimum
responsiveness and then slows the vehicle.
Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function.
The Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function including Approach
Control Warning with light braking function increases convenience and
safety. The system responds to standing traffic, independently maintains
a pre-selected distance from the vehicle in front, controls speed right
through to standstill and automatically accelerates again to the desired
speed as soon as traffic flow permits.

Traffic-queue assistant.
Takes over driving forward, braking and lane-holding in traffic jams. Where
there are sufficient lane markings, there is adequate road width and a
vehicle in front, this system maintains the desired distance on motorways,
up to a maximum speed of km/h. It also independently controls speed
through to standstill in heavy traffic and keeps the vehicle in the centre of
the lane by making steering corrections although the driver must always
keep hold of the steering wheel.
Park Assistance package.
This includes the Parking Assistant, Rear View Camera and front Park Distance
Control. As well as the steering, Parking Assistant takes control of acceleration,
braking and gear selection to automatically manoeuvre the BMW i into a
space parallel to the road. The Rear View Camera supports you when reverse
parking and manoeuvring by displaying the area behind the vehicle on the
Control Display. Last but not least, Park Distance Controls acoustic distance
warning system with visual distance display provides protection from obstacles
in front of the vehicle. These signals can be switched off manually when not
required.

SUSTAINABILITY:

THE BMW i IS DESIGNED FOR SUSTAINABILITY FROM DEVELOPMENT

AND PRODUCTION THROUGH TO USE AND RECYCLING.

The BMW i perfectly illustrates the holistic approach to sustainability

adopted by BMW i. Compared with a very efficient vehicle from the same
segment with a combustion engine, the BMW i has at least per cent
less global warming potential (CO) across its entire product life cycle
when using energy from renewable sources. To ensure sustainability,
measurable targets for the full life cycle were agreed in the early stages of
the development process. These were monitored and documented during
vehicle development and the results independently certified as meeting
the ISO / standard.

And should the maximum service life of the BMW i be reached, careful
thought has also been given to recycling it. This is why per cent of the
material used to produce a new BMW i is recyclable and the high-voltage
lithium-ion battery can be used, later in its life, as temporary storage for the
likes of solar and wind energy.

Finally, the running costs for a BMW i are considerably lower, as

An exciting new, sustainable design and yet the BMW i still remains
instantly recognisable as a thoroughbred BMW. The contemporary-looking
closed kidney grille features a frame with accents in blue or silver grey,
depending on exterior colour. The striking U-shaped LED headlights are
a fresh interpretation of BMW light design and give the front section a
distinctively expressive look. There is also the Black Belt, a high-gloss

black band running from the bonnet, across the roof and to the rear. This
visually divides the BMW i, while also presenting a compelling visual
interpretation of the lightweight construction concept. To improve
aerodynamics and, therefore, efficiency, there are aeroflaps behind the
front wheels and ahead of the rear wheels. And while the converging
stream-flow design of the C-pillars catches the eye, it also signficantly

enhances all-round visibility. To the rear, the U-shaped LED tail lights
behind the black-glazed tailgate are yet another very elegant detail. And
finally, the optional " and " light alloy wheels underscore the sporty
character of the BMW i.

valuable resources, for instance, they are made largely in
recycled plastic. Overall, per cent of the interior is made
of recycled or renewable raw material. The BMW i clearly
symbolises sustainability. But theres more. This car also
represents a new form of contemporary luxury something

MINIMALIST AND HIGH QUALITY:

THE ATELIER INTERIOR.

The Atelier interior is defined by its calming contrasts of dark
panelling, grey cloth combinations and individual blue
accents. The panelling in the instrument support and door
areas is in kenaf hibiscus. This innovative material is used to
particularly good effect in this standard package. Along with
its low weight, it has a lightly mottled surface with the natural
look of felt. Seat sides in blue and the leather steering wheel
featuring a fine, encircling line in the same colour, make

reference to the BMW logo and the innovative character of

all BMW models. The matt grey finish of the gently curving
instrument panel underscores the minimalist character of
the BMW i base-level package. And as with all BMW
models, form follows function. So even though the instrument
panel has a sweeping, sensory appeal, it also provides a
useful storage surface and serves as a cover for the
glovebox.

STYLISH AND LIGHT:

THE LOFT INTERIOR.

The Loft interior has a particularly purist feel thanks to the
shade of grey on the seats, carpet and parts of the instrument
panel and side panelling. At the same time, the light grey
accentuates the open, minimalist loft-like character of the
BMW i. The clear shade emphasises the slim design and
lightweight properties of the innovative interior fittings. The

contemporary cloth combination for the seats is similar to

high-quality technical clothing made of recycled plastic. And
like the clothing, it ensures consistently pleasant comfort
thanks to its ability to regulate temperatures. The front and
rear sides of the backrests feature an eye-catching pattern in
the design language of the BMW i vehicles.

INVITING AND NATURAL:

THE LODGE INTERIOR.

The Lodge interior, like no other equipment variant,
symbolises the progressive new understanding of premium
defined by BMW i. The aesthetically arresting combination
of matt wood plus soft leather and wool is unique in the
automotive world. Alongside its contemporary, natural and
sensory feel, it also exemplifies the concept of sustainability
from BMW i. The eucalyptus wood comes from certified and
ecologically responsible timber sources. It is neither
bleached, dyed or painted and thus retains its natural surface.

The wool cloth, meanwhile, provides the comfort of natural

fibre, as provided for a great many years by makers of luxury
clothing. It cools in summer and warms in winter. In this way,
it has high functional value to go with the benefits of its
natural feel and sustainable quality. And when the climate is
comfortable, theres less need to heat the drivers seat or
use the air-conditioning. This, in turn, saves energy and
increases the range of the BMW i.

LUXURIOUS AND EXCLUSIVE:

THE SUITE INTERIOR.

The Suite interior is characterised by its generous use of
naturally tanned leather in a warm dark brown. The tanning
process uses extract of olive leaves and thus preserves the
leathers natural softness. Around the instrument panel, it
makes for a stylish contrast with the curving wood elements
in eucalyptus. Leather in the door panelling also harmonises
with individual cloth elements and the base support in kenaf
hibiscus. Despite the luxurious overall impression, the BMW i

designers only integrated soft leather surfacing where it

could be felt and used by the driver in the armrests, for
instance. This allowed for the Suite interior to feature an
individual arrangement of cloth, leather and kenaf. In the
door areas, this unified combination sweeps through the
interior, creating a feeling of lightness and modernity amid
all this exclusivity that is so typical of all BMW i models.

INSPIRATIONAL RIGHT THROUGH THE LINE.

The six colours developed specially for the BMW i have one thing in
common expressiveness. The colour palette of two non-metallic and four
metallic paints ranges from the subtle to the striking and can be combined
as you wish with any interior design. Irrespective of which exterior colour
and interior design you select, the accent areas on the side sills and double

kidney grille are always either BMW i Blue or Frozen Grey metallic. Thanks
to the contrast between the Black Belt and the exterior colour, the exterior
acquires a two-colour, highly graphical look, which makes the vehicle
appear very light.

outside the vehicle. Here are some examples of the services and mobility
solutions offered by BMW i:
BMW i Mobility Services. BMW i is not only about innovative electric
and hybrid vehicles. It also stands for a far-reaching sustainable mobility
concept in which vehicles and mobility services are intelligently linked. In
this way, urban mobility with or without a vehicle can be more flexible and
efficient.

[ ] Glass roof, electric (optional), with slide-and-tilt function and sunblind, trap release, comfort opening and closing via remote control and touch-control function for the creation of a
pleasant climate. [ ] Navigation System Professional (optional), including hands-free kit, with USB interface, fixed ." LCD colour display with split-screen function. [ ] Instrument

AC/DC quick charging (optional).

The AC/DC quick-charge function, with a capacity of up to kWm, is the
perfect solution for the BMW i. This enables faster charging of the vehicle
at any suitable charging station, for example, a public quick-charge facility or
the BMW i Wallbox installed at home.
Heating pump (optional).
The innovative heat pump system uses energy from ambient air in winter,
just like the air conditioning does in summer. It is per cent more energyefficient than conventional heating while, at the same time, ensuring
consistent heating comfort. In cold weather, range increases in excess of
per cent are, therefore, possible. Selected interior temperatures are
maintained by fully automatic switching between the electric heating and
the heat pump.

Seat heating incl. high-voltage battery conditioning

(optional).
The energy for the BMW i drivetrain components is provided by lithiumion storage cells. These are combined in the BMW-developed lithium-ion
high-voltage battery, which is optimised to minimise, as far as possible, the
influence of exterior temperatures on vehicle output. In addition to the
cooling system in the base of the vehicle, there is a heating feature for the
high-voltage battery and, optionally, for the seats. This, along with the
cooling system, keeps the lithium-ion high-voltage battery at its optimum
operating temperature, contributing significantly to increases in
performance and service life. For instance, range loss due to heating in
winter, can be reduced considerably through pre-conditioning of the interior
and battery.

DriveNow is the car sharing service from BMW i, MINI and SIXT that gives
people the flexibility to hire vehicles when and where they need them. Its
an urban mobility concept that abides by the motto: Get in anywhere, get
out anywhere. Costs are calculated by the minute and public parking and
fuel expenses are included. Available vehicles can be found using an app,
the website or even directly on the road. A chip on the drivers licence
acts a key. DriveNow is currently available in Munich, Berlin, Dusseldorf,
Cologne, Hamburg and San Francisco. More cities are planned.

ChargeNow is a mobility service from BMW that gives customers access
to the largest network of public charging stations. Stations in the ChargeNow
network are displayed via BMW i ConnectedDrive Services in the navigation
unit or the BMW i Remote App so they can be located quickly and easily.
Use and cash-free payment is also easy thanks to the ChargeNow card.
Itemised statements are sent every month, providing a detailed overview of

The availability of ParkNow varies by country.

ParkNow. is an app and web-based parking service. It gives a clear

picture of the parking situation in the city and sorts partner parking lots by
price and distance. It even finds out availability of services such as battery
charging stations and car washes. With ParkNow, you can also reserve a
space in advance and benefit from direct navigation to the selected
destination. An electronic ticket secures access to the car park and the fee
is automatically charged to your credit card on leaving. This all takes away
the stress of searching for a space, doubts about the cost and the
inconvenience of looking for change or your ticket at the exit. ParkNow is
currently available in the Greater San Francisco area and will be expanded

venture capital firm with headquarters in New York City to optimise the
conditions for the use and promotion of innovative mobility services. BMW i
