It has been one and half a year since I graduated from high school. In fact
(on one hand), it was my most unforgettable time when I decided not to
enter the university, even I did pass the national entrance exam to one of the
top universities of the nation.( In contrast ( on the other hand), I wanted to
(to be free from the word study which enclosed me for 12 years)escape
myself from being enclosed by one word study for the whole twelve years
in school. I want (wanted)to prepare the best for my college life, and nearly
two years of experiencing the out-of -school activities have brought me a
passion for extracurricular ones. As a result, when looking for best fit
colleges, I gave the colleges with strong community services my priority. As
I searched on the Internet (through) The Princeton Review website, really
presented me (I got) a gift-a book entitled Colleges with a Conscience: 81
Great Schools with Outstanding Community Involvement. I had a thought
in my mind ( a view occurred in my mind) that Saint Anselm College might
be my destination as I read (when reading) the impressive information that
Saint Anselm students have done more than 18000 community service hours
during the academic year.
Moreover(besides, at the same time), I luckily succeeded in applying and
had chance to participate in the Vietabroader Conference, a conference of
Vietnamese students who are studying in the US. They came from more than
fifty liberal arts colleges and national universities. I talked with current
students to find out more about the real schools they are attending, and once
more, Saint Anselm College drew my attention when a junior there said to
me that being a Saint Anselm student will keep me busy but happy all the
time, and that I should be ready and breath deeply to involve in many
activities here. All the information I got was mostly from the Saint Anselms
website but it was rather enough to draw a picture of my destination (help
me visualize my life) in the next four years. The Meelia Center for
Community Service, whose mission is to cultivate and maintain a
relationship of engagement between Saint Anselm College and the larger
community, indeed appealed to me a lot. The Service learning program of
the center will(not only) provide me more than an ordinary program
furthermore, it will (but also)help me to apply the knowledge in class to
practical situations. By taking part in the service learning program, I will
have chance to foster my interest in community service, and most
importantly, I am able to get the true knowledge from both books and reallife experience outside the classroom. Many skills needed for this modern

world such as problem - solving, decision - making and critical thinking

skills I could learn from doing community services and extracurricular
activities. The benefit of many opportunities to have service learning
experiences stays also in the resume I will get for my graduate school
application in the future. Above all, community service offers me the
valuable chance to exchange my talent and skills with my partners, to make
connections with society, to be able to help others and to find myself useful.
Through many campus activities and Saint Anselm education, I am likely to
be provided the tools that allow me to lead a generous and creative life like
the philosophy and mission of the college. Saint Anselm has persuaded me
by distinguishing it from other schools in the extensive use of students as
service leaders and the leadership model in which students are trained and
supported to manage community partnerships. The schools commitment to
community services and other activities serves as exactly as what I want
from my dream college atmosphere. I believe and hope that one day not so
far, I will be one of the new students appearing on the New Student Day of
Service to be introduced to Saint Anselms service commitment and I could
devote all my passion and abilities to the colleges community.
