10. The similarities could indicate common ancestry.
11. It should be planted. Its stem strength is between Varieties A and B, it matures much earlier than A
and B, it has the highest yield, but its oil content is lower.
12. I would need to know more about what the results for Time for Seeds to Mature and Stem
Strength symbolize as there are no units.
13. Scientists could of let time go by and wait for a sunflower to have a mutation similar to the
modifications made to Variety C.
14. The 1900s deer had adaptations to protect themselves from wolves, but the 1920s deer did not.
15. Yes. This caused the deer to not evolve as their wasnt much natural selection.
16. This passage is correct. It describes natural selection, as the new giraffes can reach higher food. This
trait can be passed on because it is genetic. The number of giraffes with long necks will increase
over time as they are more fit for the environment.
17. The bacteria has become resistant to the antibiotic by means of natural selection; those with a
mutation for resistance could pass it on to future generations and multiply.
18. Koala-like fossils have not been found in North America because koalas never went there.
19. The reduced number of trees can cause greater struggles for survival because less food will cause
competition. Speciation could ocurr because new koalas may evolve and become better suited for the
environment with less trees.
20. The bacteria could no longer limit the number of koala because most of the newer ones had evolved
and had an immunity for the bacteria.
21. If the remaining trees are cleared, koalas will lack the food source they need.

13. The coloration became disruptive.
14. The medium-tan crabs would reduce in numbers because they can no longer blend in with other
objects to hide from predators.

16. It slowly was reduced as the black allele took over.
17. The color of most lizards is changing.
18. The mutation played a role in natural selection.
19. Species A
20. Species C. It has the largest beak sizes.
21. It would become disruptive.
22. Reproductive isolation causes speciation, as it prevents organisms from reproducing with eachother,
causing them to become diffrent species.
23. The species would have to be fit enough for the environment, and if they arent they die off.

26. Frequency means the number of times an allele appears in a gene pool. An example is the number of
dogs with a darker coat than a lighter one in the same species.
27. A single-gene trait is a trait controlled by one gene.
28. Bacteria slowly became resistant via natural selection, as the antibiotics were used so much that
some bacteria had a mutation and werent affected by the drugs. Continued use of the same antibiotic
will cause more bacteria to become resistant, with almost all of them being resistant.
29. Gene shuffling and mutations can cause variation, each cause genes to become altered during
reproduction, causing change in the offspring.
