Journal of Electrical Engineering , Vol.2, 2012, Romania
Abstract: This paper investigates performance of a Model reference adaptive system
(MRAS) based cost-effective drive system of an induction motor (IM) for low-cost
applications. In this paper, the MRAS is used as a speed estimator and the motor is fed
from a four-switch three-phase (FSTP) inverter instead of a conventional six-switch threephase (SSTP) inverter. This configuration reduces the cost of the inverter, the switching
losses, and the complexity of the control algorithms. The robustness of the proposed
MRAS-based FSTP inverter fed IM drive is verified by Experimental results at different
operating conditions. A comparison of the proposed FSTP inverter fed IM drive with a
conventional SSTP inverter system is also made in terms of the performance analysis. The
proposed FSTP inverter fed IM drive is found quite acceptable considering its
performance, cost reduction and other advantages.

Alexandria Engineering Journal 51 (2012) 7783.
Abstract: This paper presented a single to three-phase induction motor drive
system to provide variable output voltage and frequency. The proposed drive
system employs only six IGBT switches, which form the front-end rectifier and the
output inverter for the one step conversion from single phase supply to output
three-phase supply. The front-end rectifier permits bidirectional power flow and
provides excellent regulation against fluctuations in source voltage. Moreover, it
incorporates active input current shaping feature. The control strategy of the
proposed drive system of three phase induction motor is based on speed sensorless
vector control technique. A low cost of motor drive and much more advantages can
be achieved using the proposed drive system. Simulation and experimental results
are carried out to analysis and explore the characteristics of the proposed drive
system

Robust Speed Sensorless Control of Five-phase Induction Motor Drive

University, Egypt, 2012, Vol. 35, no. 1, pp. 17-24
Abstract: Five -phase ac motor drives are nowadays considered for various applications, due
to numerous advantages that they offer when compared to three-phase motors. Variable speed
induction motor drives without mechanical speed sensors at the motor shaft have the attractions
of low cost and high reliability. To replace the sensor, information of the rotor speed is extracted
from measured stator currents and voltages at motor terminals. This paper proposes speed
estimation method using model reference adaptive system (MRAS) to improve the performance
of a sensorless vector controller of five-phase induction motor (IM). In the proposed method, the
stator current is used as the state variable to estimate the speed. Since the stator current error is
represented as a function of the first degree for the error value in the speed estimation, the
proposed method can provide fast speed estimation and is also, more robust to variations in the
parameters, compared with other MRAS methods. Consequently, this method can improve the
performance of a sensorless vector controller in a low speed region and at zero-speed. The
proposed method is verified by simulation using the Matlab/Simulink package. The performance
of the proposed system is investigated at different operating conditions. The proposed controller
is robust and suitable for high performance five-phase induction motor drives. Simulation results
validate the proposed approaches.

The speed controller of deltoid phase induction motor is applied to alleviate the aberration
of speed. The central constructivist of this paper is to accrue the performance of speed
sensorless control of three phase induction motor. To increase its performance, this paper
presents a modified method for speed controller of an indirect vector-controlled induction
motor drive using cloud computing technique. Our methodology depends on speed
sensorless scheme to obtain the speed signal feedback, the speed estimator is based on
model reference adaptive control that uses the stator current and rotor flux as state
variables for estimating the speed. In this method, the stator current error is represented as
a function of first degree of the estimated speed error. An analysis and simulation of the
tried algorithm is birthed and applied easing a TMS320C31 floating-point notational alert
Processor. And accumulate the action of the three phase induction motor we conceived our
appraisals affixed to the accountant based on cloud computing tactics. This intelligent
policy uses the guidelines of the speed controller efficiently. Simulation and experimental
results depicted that the motor speed is decelerated articulately to destine its illusion
apprise without above and inferior smack and with about zero steady state error. The
apprised accelerate alert and its dispatching buoy amassed off line from burlesque. After
effects display an advantageous affinity among the accounted speed alert and it's
dispatching allocated as well as aped speed flares.

Abstract: Induction motor is a cast of alternating current motor where charge endures
allotted to the rotor close-at-hand deputation of conductive charge. These motors are
broadly applied in industrial claim due to they are arduous along with adhere no contacts.
To develop highly reliable and fault tolerant induction motor drive system a major concern
and extensive research has been dedicated. This paper presented the performance analysis
of fault tolerant of three phase inverter fed speed sensorless control of three phase
induction motor drive. To increase the reliability of the drive system, this paper presents
fault tolerant of inverter when one switch is open or one leg of six-switch inverter is lost.
The control of drive system is based on indirect rotor field oriented control theory. Also, the
methodology depends on speed sensorless scheme to obtain the speed signal feedback; the
speed estimator is based on model reference adaptive system using stator current and rotor
flux as state variables for estimating the speed. The fault tolerant algorithm is able to
adaptively change-over from six switch inverter to four switch inverter topologies when the
fault is occurred; also, it makes a smooth transition of the motor speed, torque and current
when changing over from faulty condition to new healthy status which is Four Switch
Three Phase Inverter (FSTPI) topology, thus, the Six Switch Three Phase Inverter (SSTPI)
topology (pre-fault status) almostly retained. The proposed algorithm is simulated by using
the Matlab/Simulink package. The obtained results from the simulation model demonstrate
the performance enhancement and good validity of the fault-tolerant control for speed
sensorless induction motor drive system.
