Guidelines for Research Project/Thesis (ECN 490)

1. All B.Sc. in Economics students are required to complete ECN 490 (Research
Project/Thesis) as a graduation requirement.

2. The students who are eligible for ECN 490 (Research Project/Thesis) must submit a
proposal for their study to their respective supervisor within one week from the
commencement of the semester. The students may select the proposal they have
prepared in the course ECN 485 (Research Methodology) as the proposal of their
Research Project, if accepted by the supervisor.
3. Students are themselves responsible to select their respective supervisors. The
Departmental Head will help the students to select their supervisors on the basis of the
area of their study. A supervisor can have maximum of two students under his/her
supervision in a semester.
4. Students have to stay in contact with their assigned supervisors. Student will meet his/her
supervisor as per schedule agreed between the supervisor and the student. In case of the
student failing to do so, the supervisor has the right to enforce penalty marking.
5. The supervisor has the right to suggest the student to change, modify, or edit the
proposal/the entire topic. Student will carry out the study only after his/her supervisor
approves the proposal.
6. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to ensure the originality, quality, and authenticity
of the study.
7. Students must submit two hard copies and a soft copy of their final paper to Ms.
Noorjahan Parvez, EMBA Program Manager (Room no. 2024) within the given date.
8. There will be an internal examiner for each paper. Both the examiner and the
supervisor will evaluate the paper separately. The average of their assigned points will
be taken as the total marks for the Paper Writing part.

9. If more than 20% discrepancy has been observed between the marks of the supervisor
and the examiner, a third examiner will be appointed to reevaluate the paper. The
average of the marks of nearest two numbers shall be considered as the marks
secured by the student.
10. Students are expected to prepare a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the major parts
of their Research Paper. They have to present the paper before a panel of examiners.
The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. The members of
the panel will evaluate them separately. Average points of the panel of faculties present
at the time of presentation will be taken as the final marks for Oral presentation.
11. The break down of marks for the Research Project/Thesis (ECN 490) will be as follows:
