Objective :
The objective of this lab is to learn about clippers , clampers and doublers
and how they works and what are the advantages of these circuits.
Materials :
Diode 4007
Oscilloscope
Multimeter
Battery
Resistor
Procedure :
We first draw analysis on paper then we draw circuits of clippers , clampers
and doublers on a software named as multisim .
Clippers :
In electronics a clipper is a device designed to prevent the output of a circuit
from exceeding a predetermined voltage level without distorting the
remaining part of the applied waveform .
A clipping circuits consists of linear elements like resistors and non-linear
elements like junction diodes and transistors but it does not contain energy
storage elements like capacitors . Clipping circuits are used to select for
purposes of transmission , that part of a signal wave form which lies above or
below a certain level voltage level . Thus a clipper circuit can remove certain
Clampers:
A clamper is an electronic circuit that fixes either the negative or positive
peak , excursions of a signal to a defined value by shifting its DC value. The
clamper does not restrict the peak to peak excursion of the signal , it moves
the whole signal up or down so as to place the peaks at the reference level .
A diode clamp consists of a diode which conducts electric current in only one
direction and prevents the signal exceeding the reference value and a
capacitor which provides a DC offset from the stored charge . The capacitor
forms a time constant with the resistor load which determines the range of
frequencies over which the clamper will be effective.
Clamps circuits are categorized by their operation ; negative or positive , and
biased or unbiased. A positive clamp circuit outputs a purely positive
waveform from an input signal ; it offsets the input signal so that all of the
waveform is greater than 0V .
Doublers :
A voltage doubler is an electronic circuit which charges capacitor from the
input voltage and switches these charges in such a way that , in the ideal
case , exactly twice the voltage is produced at output as at its input.
The simplest of these circuits are a form of rectifier which takes an AC
voltage as input and output a doubled DC voltage . The switching elements
are simple diodes and they are driven to switch state merely by the
alternating voltage of the input . DC to DC voltage doublers cannot switch in
this way and require a driving circuit to control the switching .
RESULT :
ANALYSIS :
Trough this information and practise we are fully known about clippers ,
clampers and doublers and the instructor told the remaining information .
